Same mistake over and over again, expecting a different result
Stop me if you’ve heard this one…
A test of the national missile defense system failed Monday when an interceptor missile did not launch from its island base in the Pacific Ocean, the military said. It was the second failure in months for the experimental program.
A statement from the Missile Defense Agency said the cause of the failure was under investigation.
If this sounds familiar to you, there’s a good reason. Just two months ago, the exact same thing happened at the exact same location. It was supposed to work today, but then again, it’s always failed in the past, so the optimism was clearly misplaced. Again.
There are signs that even the Bush gang, whose allegiance to missile defense has been frighteningly unwavering in the face of repeated failure, may be slightly less enthusiastic about the fiasco. Last week, the administration proposed a $1-billion cut in the $9.9-billion missile defense program.
