How about a little Friday diversion from the usual political news? My friends at the World Stupidity Awards emailed this week to let me know about their third annual ceremony to be held in Montreal on July 22nd. The show will be hosted, appropriately enough, by Lewis Black (of Jon Stewart fame).
There are some nominations, but a few jumped out at me.
* Stupidest Statement of the Year: “Can you handle my truth?” (Britney Spears); “Go F— yourself” (Dick Cheney); “Nooooooooooooo” (Darth Vader in Star Wars: Episode III); “They never stop thinking of ways of harming America, and neither do we.” (George W. Bush); “That’s hot” (Paris Hilton)
It’s hard not to vote for Bush, isn’t it? How about…
* Stupidest Man of the Year: U.S. Senator John Kerry, Former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, Columnist Ann Coulter, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Players Association Director Bob Goodenow (Shared), U.S. President George W. Bush
World Stupidity Awards Spokesmoron Robert Spence said Kerry was nominated because “the only time that Bush has been popular during his Presidency was when Kerry was running against him.” Coulter was put in this category, Spence said, because she “is the epitome of the stupid male — bigoted, loud-mouthed and always firing off guns. She’s Attila the Hun in high heels and a sexy pantsuit.” I also liked…
* Media Outlet Which Has Best Furthered Ignorance: Fox News, CBS News, CNN, Al-Jazeera, Newsweek
Considering that there’s empirical evidence to back up the claim, I’d say Fox News has this one wrapped up.
There are some other entertaining topics and nominees this year, so take a look and pick your favorites.
