He sure is busy

Take a wild guess who’s heading up the White House’s reconstruction effort on the Gulf Coast.

Republicans said Karl Rove, the White House deputy chief of staff and Mr. Bush’s chief political adviser, was in charge of the reconstruction effort, which reaches across many agencies of government and includes the direct involvement of Alphonso R. Jackson, secretary of housing and urban development.

We learned last week that Rove had been dispatched by Bush to “contain the political damage from the administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina,” but as far as I can tell, having Rove head up the entire reconstruction effort is a new one.

You know, that Rove guy, for someone with no training or experience in domestic or foreign policy, sure is busy. When the president assembled a White House Iraq Group to prepare the nation for war, Rove was there. When the president needed someone to coordinate policy between the White House Domestic Policy Council, National Economic Council, National Security Council and Homeland Security, he tapped Rove. When the president needed a campaign “architect,” Rove was his man. Now the president needs someone to be in charge of Gulf Coast reconstruction, so Rove is the natural choice.

A man of many talents, obviously.

You don’t suppose that the president tapped his political expert to oversee the reconstruction effort because he plans to politicize the undertaking, do you?

So who’s going to take over when Rover gets hauled off to jail later this month?

  • At least now America will be able to see the looting in progress. In Iraq it’s all been out of sight. Now we’ll be able to see the blacks and poor prevented from ever returning home. The Republicans are going to turn NOLA into a giant gated NNA Disney community.

  • As you may recall Christ once quoted the proverb:” Where the body is
there the vultures gather.” Enough said.

  • Daddy Bush always used James Baker to pull him (and his boy) out of the ditch, junior has Turd Blossom.

  • Many of us here have had lots of fun with our belief that Dick Cheney was the real President, not the Chimp. Well, this latest move convinces me that Rove is, in fact, our de facto President. All Hail Turdbossom!!

  • I’m posting this here because I dont have any other place to do so. It comes from one of the Yahoo groups dealing with Peak Oil, Running on Empty 2:

[Editor’s note: Out of bandwidth concerns, I’m afraid this comment — which was several thousand words — had to be removed. However, the Yahoo group REArance referred to is here, for those who are interested in the issue.]

  • REArance, you realize that no one will read 2,500-word comments, right? Maybe a link to the Yahoo group instead?

  • Methinks REArance might actually be Rove. Who else would use the old Rovian trick of “disrupt and distract”??

CB, please remove that comment if possible.

  • Gary, I read every word of it, and cried throughout most of it. I have been unable to fully express my sadness and anger over all this, and have been unable to even blog for days, which is unlike me. Although the post rambles a bit, and is inchoherrent in parts, it definitely hit me in the gut, as I feel exactly as the writer does.

    REArance, thanks. I need that.

  • See, Bush once again puts the wrong person in charge.

Rove is completely wrong for rebuilding New Orleans because to do so, he’s going to have to CONTAIN leaks, something we all know that he’s apparently incapable of doing.

  • Apologies! Didnt occur to me that it would cause bandwith problems. I thank you for linking to the original post!!!

I’ve been called a few bad names in my life (just ask my ex-wife), but you are hitting waaay below the belt there Gridlock! 😉

On a semi related note: the prez of my local scuba club is an engineer with the city of Los Angeles. His office is sending teams of engineers and specialist to the Gulf in two week rotations to help, others are using their vacation time to volunteer. Interestingly enough, they have provided considerable amounts of the city’s own emergency supplies to the efforts there.

  • If the Democrats can’t demonstrate now, once and for all the utter corruption and destruction caused by Bush Crony Capitalism than this party should be dissolved.

Paul Hacket lead the way; it’s possible to say bad things about Bush and not get killed. What are they going to do? Democrats already can’t get anything out of this Congress, so what is really the danger? At the end of the day, Karl Rove doesn’t need poll approval to carry out his agenda. So why not make him look as corrupt as possible, and tag every Republican as a Bush Republican. And never miss an opportunity to point out the similarities between reconstruction in Iraq and Louisiana.

And the first chance anyone gets, ask the vice president if he can name any other construction companies besides Halliburton and Bechtal.

  • Sorry REArance… I apologize profusely. No one should ever have to bear the brunt of that comparison.

In regards to this appointment…it’s just Bush’s way of preparing so that he can say that Dem’s are obstructing the rebuilding of NOLA when the indictment of Rove comes down.

  • Rove has as much business overseeing New Orleans’ reconstruction as Michael Brown had overseeing FEMA. Of course, with Bush as President, it’s clear that having people in positions of responsibility without the necessary qualifications seems to be standard operating procedure.

Rove is, quite frankly, a political terrorist. And he should be treated as such.

  • Speaking of ” Damage Control and Rebuilding…”..

Today Bush has appointed his favorite pupeteer/supporter/political operative..IMAGE MAKER…..with the largest rebuilding program and budget since the Civil War…???

Unbelieveably, AGAIN….right after the the Brown/FEMA debacle….. Bush has appointed someone with absolutely NO EXPERIENCE in such matters….He’s appointed that master of “spin”, that image maker…that political terrorist…… Carl Rove… in charge of rebuilding the Gulf Coast.

Whats going to be rebuilt here??? the Gulf coast .the lives and property of hundreds of thousands of Americans…..???

    ………….or Bush’s saging political image!

WHAT IS HE “F—ING ” THINKING…..???? AND HOW MUCH OF THIS ARROGANCE AND HUBRIS WILL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE STAND …BEFORE THEY THROW HIS STUPID, INCOMPETENT ASS OUT!

Oops I have to calm down……

    Warren C.
