So much for the determined fight to “protect their trademark.” Fox News announced yesterday that it is dropping its lawsuit against Al Franken.
Apparently, Fox News didn’t care for being on the receiving end of a vicious smackdown from a federal district court judge — who called FNC’s lawsuit “wholly without merit” on Friday — and decided to call it a day.
Despite having to crawl away with its tail humiliatingly between its legs, Fox News exited the legal stage with the tact and class one has come to expect from such a fine journalistic institution.
“It’s time to return Al Franken to the obscurity that he’s normally accustomed to,” Fox News spokeswoman Irena Steffen said.
Sure. Now you decide you don’t want to give Franken publicity. Fox News propels Franken back into the limelight, pushes his book to the top of the bestseller list, becomes a laughingstock, and then they decide they want to send Franken into obscurity.
Two words for Fox News: Too late.
