You can exhale now; it (probably) won’t be today

ABC News received word from a Justice Department official this morning that “no announcement from Fitzgerald is expected today.” CNN is reporting the same thing.

The federal grand jury investigating the leak of a CIA operative’s identity could hand up charges as early as today, but Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald is not expected to make any public announcements Wednesday, one source with knowledge of the probe told CNN.

The grand jury is meeting Wednesday in U.S. District Court and is believed to be taking up the CIA leaks case in some manner.

Many legal experts and lawyers not involved in the case had expected the grand jury to vote on an indictment Wednesday — if the investigation is going to result in indictments — and that the outcome would be announced publicly.

Just not today. Go ahead, exhale.

That is, unless Fitzgerald surprises everyone. The guy is unpredictable.

Whhhhhhhew! Well thank f$#k for that. I was going blue!!!

  • It’s never going to come. He has two days left and still no indictments. He’s scratching the bottom of the barrel straining to see what he can come up with but there’s nothing he just doesn’t have the evidence to take down the big game. I’d love to see the entire White House staff behind bars ( including the head WH chef just for good measure) but this whole thing seems too good to be true – if Fitz had something substantial wouldn’t there be indictments by now?

  • Hey CBBB,

Remember: Fine wine takes time, or “there will be no wine before its time.” In addition to being dogged it, perhaps Fitzgerald is meticulous.

  • Taking his time and being meticulous seems to be a Fitzpatrick characteristic, so I’m not surprised we won’t hear from him today (as disappointing as that is). I take heart in believing the delay means he’s got more on the WH rather than less — and that the perps’ agony continues.

My question is, if Fitzgerald does not gain indictments before this grand jury’s term expires and another is seated, does he have to start all over, or nearly? I don’t know enough about how grand juries work.

At any rate, delaying indictments increases the chances that some WH defector will break under the strain and cough up more evidence.
