In the 11th hour

We’ve all been very patient; it won’t be much longer.

* Patrick Fitzgerald is expected to hold a news conference today at 2 p.m. Fitzgerald’s office also announced it would release information on the grand jury about noon. (Both times are Eastern)

* Helping to flesh out why Rove will not be indicted, the Washington Post reported this morning that Rove provided new information to Fitzgerald during 11th hour negotiations that “gave Fitzgerald pause,” said a source close to Rove. “The prosecutor has to resolve those issues before he decides what to do.”

* Fox News reported that Fitzgerald “had an indictment in his hand Friday morning” and also said the prosecutor will indict Libby on four charges of lying to the grand jury.

Over-under on how soon the resignations and/or firings will come?

  • Over-under on how soon the resignations and/or firings will come?

I have to assume Libby’s resignation has already been written and will be released no later than 3pm.

As for firings, I doubt there’ll be any, at least not for a long while. If Bush won’t fire Brownie, he won’t fire anyone.

  • So Rove sang like a birdie for Fitzgerald. The question is whether what he said was true and weighty enough to get him off the hook, or just another bogus dodge to delay the inevitable a little longer. Time will tell.

Rege, I like that ‘loaded in the toaster’ bit. Very cute. I can hardly wait to hear it go ‘sproing!!!’. 🙂

  • yes Rove possesses such strong character. the moment he must face responsibility, he rats someone out, sings like a canary. true Republican in today’s mold.

  • My guess is that Rove made a deal with Fitzpatrick that let Rove off the hook for good and opened the floodgates for a deeper, more significant investigation for Fitz. It’s just a hunch, but I figure Rove may have diverted Fitzgerald deeply into Cheney’s domain.

If any of this is true, it means that Rove covered both Bush and himself by pushing Cheney overboard. Rove has no power without Bush and Bush has no brain without Rove.
