‘The only awards that matter’

The terrific folks at Wampum are now accepting nominations for the all-important 2005 Koufax Awards, the annual honors for blogs that Atrios once accurately described as “the only awards that matter.”

There are a total of 15 categories, and if readers were so inclined, you can nominate The Carpetbagger Report in a few of them. Here’s what to do:

* Go to Wampum’s nomination page.

* Go to the very bottom, where it says “Post a comment.” Type in your first name and email address in the appropriate fields, and in the Comments box, type in the name of the blog you wish to vote for and the category. (For example: you could type “Best Blog: The Carpetbagger Report”) Then press the “Post” button below. You can vote in as many categories as you want at one time. And in this opening nomination round, you can even vote for more than one blog in a category.

* For more on how this whole thing works, Dwight Meredith has a helpful Q&A.

There are a series of steps to the Koufax Awards’ process, and this is the initial stage where anyone can submit nominations. If I make it past this round in any category, I may ask for your vote again in few weeks.

One more thing, and this is important — only one vote per person per round. I appreciate enthusiastic support, but Wampum can see when someone votes from the same computer twice.

So head on over there and let your voice be heard. There are an astounding number of great blogs online, so even if you’re not inclined to vote for The Carpetbagger Report, it’s still worth taking a moment to support the blogs that deserve recognition.

Do you have pro status as a freelancer? Can we vote for you under best professional blog as well?

  • Do you have pro status as a freelancer?

I don’t think so. My freelance work is independent of my blog work, and the blog is not supported by any larger media outlets, so I don’t think I’m eligible in that category. Thanks for asking, though.

  • Well, I voted for you for Best Blog and deserving of wider recognition. I noticed a few others had done that too.

I know you know who I am by my email address, but carolyn13 is the former anon. I was going through one of my frequent “I’m sick of the blogs” spells and didn’t feel like making myself known for awhile.

  • Steve, you certainly deserve to be recognized for the incredible work you do here, and it’s good to see that many of your supporters have already shown up at Wampum to vote for you.

  • Thank you for your wonderful insights on the misdeeds of the Bushies and the Republicans. No morning is complete without TheCarpetBaggerReport.

I nominated you for best blog and best new blog.

    Good luck!

  • CB doesn’t qualify as best new blog. He’s been doing this for several years. May I suggest firedoglake as best new blog?

(I hope this link works. It’s been awhile since I tried it the old fashioned way. Why is there no preview here?)

  • I love this blog.

    Period.

I don’t post as often as many here, but this is the first blog that I read every day. I absolutely love the way you represent America! You say what I would say…if I had a blog.

That being said…I will not vote for you!

    Fuck this stupid fucking vote!!!

I know it may mean advertising dollars for you…
…but I will always have to wonder: at what price?

You should never…EVER!…become too big for your own britches.

At the risk of corrupting a great blogger and a great blog, I did the deed: Best Blog and Most Deserving of Wider Recognition!

If you win please don’t start tapping our phones or starting any wars. We’ll fight ’em in here so we don’t have to fight ’em out there.
