A match made in … somewhere unpleasant

On August 4, Bob Novak, then a commentator for CNN, threw a bit of a temper tantrum on the air, stormed off the set, and hasn’t been on the air since. Today, Novak announced that his 25-year relationship with CNN is over. Guess where he’s headed.

Commentator Robert Novak, who hasn’t been seen on CNN since swearing and storming off the set in August, will leave the network after 25 years and join Fox News Channel as a contributor next month. […]

He said he wanted to stay in TV, but do more limited work. Fox News Channel spokesman Brian Lewis confirmed his signing with that network.

Novak said the switch to Fox had nothing to do with finding a more comfortable home for his views.

“I don’t think that’s a factor,” he said. “In 25 years I was never censored by CNN and I said some fairly outrageous things and some very conservative things. I don’t want to give the impression that they were muzzling me and I had to go to a place that wouldn’t muzzle me.”

I don’t doubt that Novak felt uninhibited during his CNN tenure — he must have, considering his stunning rhetorical record — but by shifting to Fox News, he’s heading to a place where his conservative tirades will be welcomed, enjoyed, and appreciated by his colleagues and viewers alike. For that matter, Novak’s ethical standards will no doubt fit in comfortably with his home network.

It’s a match made in … somewhere unpleasant.

I knew we should have cut off the head and stuffed it with garlic. Novakula walks again, sucking the blood from the public debate.

  • Bob Novak’s journalistic standards have always left me wanting. Fox News has always been a home of the fairly unbalanced. I think it’s a good thing to keep all the hacks concentrated on a single network.

That’s true, they are the legion of the undead at Fox. Where is Buffy when we need her most?

  • I’m sorry, but is anybody anywhere on planet Earth surprised by this? Novak was just waiting a decent interval after stabbing his old career in the back and eating its liver raw. Now he’s got a new career working for the zombie nation. Watch your back, Fox!
