The only rallying cry Dems should need

The Washington Times ran an item today on Dems drafting a campaign strategy that will emphasize privacy issues over the next year. The article explains, of course, that the theme will underscore fights of warrantless-searches, the Alito nomination, and the Patriot Act.

Apparently, Republicans are planning to rely on the tricks used during the last midterm cycle.

Senate Republicans say the strategy reminds them of the Democrats — such as former Sen. Max Cleland of Georgia — who opposed the creation of the Homeland Security Department after the 2001 terrorist attacks.

One Republican aide said he looks forward to posting pictures of Mr. Cleland around the Capitol during the Patriot Act debate as a warning to Democrats that they will face a similar political demise.

I can only hope this is true. By all means, GOP, post pictures of Cleland everywhere — and give Dems the only rallying cry they should need for the rest of the year.

True, what was done to Max Cleland, or what Mean Jean Schmidt said to Rep Murtha, shows the true scumminess of the Republican party.

  • Rumor has it that if the Rethugs stay in the majority in the Congress, and if Bush is allowed to continue to destroy our civil liberty — a distinct possibility with Scalia and Cheney calling the Constitution a “God-damned piece of paper” — that we will all be required to have a National ID card within two years. I, for one, will risk imprisonment, torture, and being disappeared, in order to oppose the fascist demand to surrender my civil liberties. I will never do so willingly, and am truly sickened that the punditry are willing to give Bush a pass on the data mining and other illegal/unconstitutional spying on ordinary citizens and protestors — all in the name of “security” or simple expediency.

My predictions for 2006 and beyond:

    1. We will have a resurrection of “terror alerts” by Summer, if not before, in order to stir up the fear in time for the 2006 election campaigns.

    2. We will have another “terrorist” attack before the 2008 elections, and Bush will declare marshall law; he will suspend the elections and habeas corpus; and remain in office with his “permanent Rethug majority.”

Happy New Year to all, and and may each of you enjoy the last remnants of your free lives, as the economy will tank, and Bush will in fact become the new King George.

Never, never, never, never, never trust the Rethugs. Never surrender.
