DSCC keeps raking in the dough

Reader RM noted that when it comes to fundraising for this year’s Senate campaigns, Dems are not only doing well, they’re far ahead of their GOP rivals.

The Republican committee that handles Senate campaigns picked up the pace in fundraising in February but still trails its rival Democratic committee by almost a 2-to-1 margin.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee raised $5.5 million in February, while the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee raised $3.8 million.

Democrats still hold a big advantage on money in the bank with $27.4 million, while Republicans have $14.5 million.

I’d heard the DSCC fundraising was going well, but I didn’t realize the committee had nearly twice as much money in the bank as their Republican counterparts. Kudos to DSCC Chairman Chuck Schumer — the committee is clearly where it needs to be right now.

In fact, it’s worth noting the big picture here. The DSCC is in a position to help Dem Senate candidates with resources, the DCCC is keeping up rather nicely with the NRCC on the House races ($20.8 million cash on hand vs. $16.3 million), and the DNC’s coffers may be running low, but that’s only because Howard Dean has just spent the last year making an unprecedented investment in state party infrastructure.

Recruiting has gone very well, the party’s committees are raising the money they need, and the polls look great. Consider this your morale boost for the day.

Funny I should read this right now. I just got off the phone with a DSCC fundraising caller. I told her that on no uncertain terms would I be giving money to the DSCC because they are supportng Bob Freakin’ Casey – yeah, the anti-choice, pro-war, pro-Alito republican-in-sheep’s-clothing the Democrats are trying to foist off on us to run against Santorum here in PA in November. I asked her why the DSCC wasn’t supporting either Chuck Pennacchio (my choice) or even Alan Sandals (NOW’s choice) instead of this Santorum-wannabe. She hadn’t heard of either of those candidates. My point exactly, I said.

Screw the DSCC.

I’m not coming out in November to vote for Casey. End of story.

  • semper, although my reasons were different, I sent their most recent mailing back with a big $0.00, telling them that when they stand up for average americans and their civil rights, especially on issues such as the cloture vote on the bankruptcy bill and Justice Scalito, and on the Feingold censure, that I would send them $$ but not until then. Then I sent some cash to the DNC.
