Who else visited the ‘hospitality suite’?

Is it too early to start calling this one “[tag]hookergate[/tag]”? Just asking.

Following up on yesterday’s revelations about corrupt defense contractors bribing former Rep. Duke Cunningham with prostitutes and use of a nearby “hospitality suite,” the question now turns to who else might have taken advantage of the same “services.” Ken Silverstein at Harper’s new blog has done some digging.

I’ve learned from a well-connected source that those under intense scrutiny by the [tag]FBI[/tag] are current and former lawmakers on Defense and Intelligence committees — including one person who now holds a powerful intelligence post. […]

As to the festivities themselves, I hear that party nights began early with poker games and degenerated into what the source described as a “frat party” scene — real bacchanals. Apparently photographs were taken, and investigators are anxiously procuring copies. My heart beats faster in fevered anticipation.

A former lawmaker from the Intelligence committee who “now holds a powerful intelligence post”? Let’s see, [tag]Porter Goss[/tag] was chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and is now the director of the CIA. Yes, he of “Somebody sends me a blue dress and some DNA, I’ll have an investigation” fame.

What’s more, Justin Rood pointed to a Goss-[tag]Wilkes[/tag] connection that’s gone overlooked.

Remember that Goss is the one who plucked one of Wilkes’ old San Diego friends, the unusual and colorful Kyle “Dusty” Foggo, out of CIA middle-management obscurity to be his #3 at the agency. At the time of Foggo’s appointment, no one could figure out where he came from, or how Goss knew him.

In fact, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported today that Foggo, promoted by Goss for still unexplained reasons, is now under investigation by the CIA’s inspector general to determine whether he helped Wilkes gain CIA contracts.

The race is on to see if the Wilkes/Wade/MZM scandal turns out to be as sweeping and devastating as the Abramoff scandal. If Cunningham wasn’t the only lawmaker to use hospitality suites and prostitutes, all bets are off.

Post Script: By the way, it’s worth noting that Wilkes is a Bush pioneer, having raised more than $100,000 for BC04. FYI.

I think it might be time for John Negraponte (DNI) to suggest to Portor Goss (DCI) that it would be a good idea to spend more time with his family.

Only, of course, because of the serious concerns about morale in the Intelligence Community 😉

  • Just goes to show that you can’t never have too many hookers if you want the news media to pay attention.

    Ay-yup. 😉

  • If Rove is what’s for Fitzmas, this is definitely good for Ramadan and Hanukkah combined. I thought pictures of conservative government types with hookers draped on them and a lampshade on their heads was just a liberal Hollywood thing. Appartently not. This cannot help the rift between the fundies and the fremarketeers.

I hope Porter’s hooker is wearing a blue dress. The fully color front page of the Sunday paper! Ah god love them!

  • Well, now we can empirically test whether the sex scandal is the only thing that will get the media’s attention…

  • Would they really have retained that suite if they were only providing intermittent “hospitality” to one corrupt congressman? After all, any prudent businessperson wants to get biggest bang for the buck (sorry). To cite my favorite Johnny Cochran quote: “It doesn’t make SENSE.”

  • I’ve been totally misunderstanding these guys. When RepubCo says it’s all about the Party, I’ve been thinking about the wrong kind of Party. Those sly dogs.

    Woof. Woof.

  • I have a big problem with just using -gate to name your scandal. So, let’s not shortchange ourselves with “hookergate.”

How about the “lay” to play Congress?

And about those Bush Pioneers – we’ve had Wilkes and Noe and Abramoff. Shouldn’t the Feds just automatically investigate anyone who got that Pioneer designation?

  • Wow, I wonder if any of these Republicans gave self-righteous speeches during Bill Clinton’s impeachment proceeding? I was worried when I heard about this that our Congressman Chris Chocola might have been involved in what is now being called HOOKERGATE. It would be a shame to have the upcoming election marred by a scandal.

But you have to think that if lobbyists with money or Tom Delay was involved, he would have been there to kiss some ass. After all, he has consistently bent over whenever asked to do so by either the Administration or Tom Delay.

Luckily for our district I don’t think Representative Chris Chocola is the poker party and hooker type. However, I suppose that only time will tell.

  • OK, has anyone heard that this rumor is true: one of the people being investigated in the Hookergate scandal has a leadership position in the House, specifically the Assistant Majority Whip? This could mean that Congressman Chris Chocola is one of the people being investigated.

Of course, everyone who knows that man says that this is impossible. He may represent everything that is bad about the Republican Party but he is universally considered to be an honest and upright person. I just wish this news would break a little faster. What ever happened to the scoop power of the Drudge Report?

  • This isn’t original, but I have to echo the suggestion that this be called “Watergategate.” It did, after all, happen at the Watergate hotel.
