Tuesday’s political round-up

Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that wouldn’t generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:

* In Tennessee, the latest Rasmussen poll shows Rep. Harold Ford (D) surging against Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker (R), with the Dem now up by five, 48% to 43%. Ford has an edge with unaffiliated voters and leads by a whopping 70% to 23% among moderates. A month ago, Ford trailed by one.

* Speaking of Tennessee, the gubernatorial race isn’t nearly as interesting. Democratic Governor Bredesen now buries Republican state Senator Jim Bryson in the latest Rasmussen poll, 63% to 28%. It’s worse for Bryson now than a month ago, when Bredesen led by “only” 27 points.

* In Virginia, most polls show the closely-watched Senate race neck-and-neck, but a new Rasmussen poll shows Sen. George Allen (R) leading Jim Webb (D), 49% to 43%. For what it’s worth, that’s a slight improvement for Webb over last month’s Rasmussen poll.

* Arkansas’ gubernatorial race appears pretty one-sided at this point, with state Attorney General Mike Beebe (D) enjoying a double-digit lead over former Rep. Asa Hutchinson (R), 53% to 35%.

* And in Rhode Island, the latest Brown University poll shows Rhode Island Gov. Donald Carcieri (R) building on his earlier leads over Lt. Gov. Charles Fogarty (D) and is now up by 12, 50% to 38%.

Wait until the post-Foley polls come out. And when a poll deals with ‘likely voters’ watch that number drop, and the drop will be Republicans.

  • This week in Washington:

    Rice: “I don’t recall”
    Hastert: “I don’t recall”
Barney: “I believe we should stay in Iraq”

  • These Virginia polls are getting on my nerves.

Let’s hope the direction is going the right way.

Allen now says he wants to focus on the issues. Like the fact that he opposes his own party’s President on Immigration.

Allen, if he’s to the right of George Bush, isn’t he wrong for Virginia?

  • What in heaven’s name do the people in Virginia need in order to come to their senses and reject such an egregious jackass as Allen?

  • “What in heaven’s name do the people in Virginia need in order to come to their senses and reject such an egregious jackass as Allen?” – N. Wells

What do we need to get the South-Western counties to stop interferring in our transportation infrastructure projects?

We need to drop about ten counties from this state. Give them to Kentucky. It will improve the IQ of both states.
