Santorum is the only thing standing between us and fascism

In May 2005, Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) raised a few eyebrows when, during a debate on the “nuclear option,” he compared Democrats’ approach to Bush’s judicial nominees to Adolf Hitler in Paris in 1942.

Some of the cooler heads among us argued that Santorum was not necessarily drawing a moral parallel; he was only using World War II as an “easily understood historical reference.” Maybe so.

But how about this one?

Likening the times to the late 1930s as Nazi Germany was rising to power, Sen. Rick Santorum said last night that if he loses his re-election bid, it could set the stage for terrorism to become more of a threat than the Nazis ever were.

“If we are not successful here and things don’t go right in the election, there’s a good chance that the course of our country could change,” he said. “We are in the equivalent of the late 1930s, and this election will decide whether we are going to continue to appease or whether we will stand and fight while we have a chance to win without devastating consequences.

“And you here in Pennsylvania — you here in this room — will have a huge role to play as to what happens.”

What?

In 2004, Dick Cheney told audiences that if voters backed Kerry-Edwards, the United States would get “hit again” by terrorists. It was one of the more startling instances of the GOP using the politics of fear — vote for us or you could very well die.

But Santorum seems to be taking matters considerably further. If Pennsylvanians don’t vote for him, there’s a “good chance” terrorists will start taking over countries and posing a Nazi-like risk to the world. Without Rick Santorum, the U.S. will embrace appeasement. Santorum will, apparently, single-handedly save civilization against a terrorist nightmare, which only he fully appreciates. A vote against Santorum not only opens the door to more attacks, it undermines the future of our very society.

I’ve heard of delusions of grandeur, but this is ridiculous….

It fits with the meltdown the other week. Watching a desperate moron who knows he’s drowning, you can smell the stink of the panther sweat on him from fear even through a computer on the other side of the continent.

  • And if that doesn’t work for the Gauleiter of Pennsylvania, we’ll be hearing about the Atomic Mole People.

  • Rick;s problem isn’t anything a heaping helping of Thorazine couldn’t fix. It’s more than a little ironic how close the words “Santorum” and “Sanitarium” are.

  • Wait, so, if things go wrong, the course of the country could change, but this election will determine if we are going to continue to appease or whether we stand and fight?

Um, Rick? Do you mean a vote for you is a vote to continue the current course, which is, apparently, appeasement?

So, if I vote for your opponent, I can get a change of course, and we’ll actually start fighting the terrrorists, as opposed to, say, Iraqis?

Sounds good. Thanks for clearing that up.

  • God help us if the demos get to power. The facsist liberal progressive left-wing netnuts terrorist-huggers will bring america to its knees because santorum has clearly shown that the aforementioned facist liberal progressive etc etc all HATE AMERICA.
    Absentee ballot in hand…
    Pen firmly gripped
    bye-bye Ricky

  • I think it means Santorum thinks he’s French.

How’s that going to win him an Election?

It’s just the same old lie. “You must vote Republican’t. Democrats can’t protect you.” Kind of ignores the fact that they still havent caught Osama, didn’t stop 9/11/01 with months of warning while the Clintonistas did stop the Millenium Attacks, etc..

Ricky “Man on Dog” Santorum probably doesn’t even realizes how desperate he sounds. I suppose he’s just trying to get conservatives to think they will have to stop the bleeding there after they lose Chafee (and hopefully some others).

  • Little Ricky, like all evil scumbags, is projecting again. If the Dems win, he sees the real possibility of subpoenas and trials and uncomfortable questions, and lots and lots of jail time for Republicrooks.

In other words, the End Of The World.

So that’s what he talks about.

Of course the investigations of Republicrook malfeasance would be made to look like real investigations of real crimes, but in reality it would be the forces of evil who were in the background, planting all kinds of incriminating notes in the email archives of the poor, innocent Republicans.

If people would just read the Hobbit using the RNC decoder ring, they would see how obvious this all is.

  • I think we should get Mr Santorum a cape, to go with his superhero status.

And you know what happens to superheroes who wear capes…

  • I will be so glad to see the last of that guy. May he and all others of his ilk go down in flame, crashing, burning, and praising Jesus all the way to the bottom.

Unfortunately that is not what will happen to him. He will get a job on FOX as a news analyist and we will see his face forever. At least he won’t be involved in passing laws.

  • Gay marriage will lead to “man on dog” sex and voting for Democrats will lead to a new world facisim led by fundamentalist Islamist terrorists. These two basic ideas seem to demonstrate the logic rattling around under that “Spanky and Our Gang” dew. He’s obviously nuts and desperate. Don’t look him in the eye and don;t accidently get between him and his cubs. He might attack.

  • As a newly minted “paranoid” Democrat, I only ask that if we do win this November can we keep close oversite on the CIA and FBI to make sure that Bush loyalists in those agencies don’t decide to take a “coffee break” and allow another catastrophie to occur after Democrats assume power.
I know, I know sounds very paranoid, but between Negroponte and Hayden (For some reason Mueller at FBI sems like an honorable guy) I don’t feel very confident that our best interests would continue to be served if after Democrats took over Bush needed a boost to his flagging presidency to distract voters.

  • From Lord of The Rings analogies to WW II comparisons it seems Icky Ricky is completely off the rails. I live in Pa. and the other day a couple people knocked on my door and solicited my vote for Santorum. I told them I wouldn’t piss on Santorum if he was on fire let alone vote for him and that I despise everything he stands for politcally. I shut the door and went back to the TV and was delighted to hear my neighbor screaming a few moments later at this pair of Santorumites his views on Little Ricky’s political shortfalls. I put my Casey sign in the front yard yesterday which will hopefully discourage any more unwanted Republican canvassers fouling my doorstep.

  • All of us would do well for ourselves if we would just understand that if the Republicans lose their one party rule, monkeys will begin to fly out of our rearends. If only we would bow to the omniscent Dick Cheney, our lives would be sooo much better, though we’d all be speaking like some penguin-like creature. The Republican leadership has proven the past year just what an empty vessel it is. Let no Republican stand after November 7th, 2006! Vote the Rascals Out in ’06 and ’08! -Kevo

  • Did any of these Repugs think of what they were handing a possible future Democrat president the powers they alowed Bush? Somehow, I can bring myself to see these bastards passing the Military Commissions act had Gore been prez.

    Not exactly on-topic, but I have a cold…

  • “If we are not successful here and things don’t go right in the election, there’s a good chance that the course of our country could change,” he said.

He’s right, but not for the reason he’s arguing. It’s an unintentional teh funny. I’d call it better than a good chance our country will change–for the better obviously. Things like working people’s issues, the environment, oversight for preznight kinggenius, etc. might get a fair shot at seeing the light of day.

  • Who else has such a firm, fatalistic and determinable stewardship over the Eye of Mordor? Who? Name me one other person.

  • Santorum is the only thing standing between us and fascism

Actually it’s us that’s standing between him and fascism. and he’s pushing us in fascism’s direction. ow, my metaphor hurts.

  • Oh, my– he is getting awfully frothy, isn’t he?

This is my second attempt at a comment. The first time, I refused to “correctly” answer the captcha question: which was What color is an orange?

    Red… no, BLUE!

  • If Rick Santorm and the GOP are the only things standing between us and fascism the be afraid, be very, very afraid.

Seriously, has anything over the last 6 years given anyone (except the mindless GOP zombies) confidence that this administration and the GOP know what the freak they are doing much save us from the fascist boobyman?

  • Wait – if you read exactly what he said, he’s completely and totally CORRECT – it’s just that he’s on the wrong side of the situation.

“If we are not successful here and things don’t go right in the election, there’s a good chance that the course of our country could change,” he said. “We are in the equivalent of the late 1930s,
    Correct.

“and this election will decide whether we are going to continue to appease or whether we will stand and fight while we have a chance to win without devastating consequences.”

Correct – but that’s what’s going to happen if we vote for the likes of SANTORUM!!

  • Is Santorum campaigning from a time warp? Saying “this election will decide whether we are going to continue to appease” doesn’t make a whole lot of sense five years into absolute Republican rule. I mean, unless he’s had an epiphany and is actually accusing the Bush Administration and Congress of appeasement.

  • I just had to drag this nugget (dingleberry?) over from the article:

“I’m sure that offended a lot of Germans when we went out and declared war against the Nazis and fought that concept…”

Yes of course Prick, people of Jewish German (Austrian, Polish, French…) descent were pissed as hell when the US finally got off its ass and started fighting the Reich instead of sending refugees back to the loving embrace of der Fuher. Remember all the protest marches? Sure you do, you mangy rabid warthog. And excuse me but aren’t a lot of people in Pennsylvania of Dutch/Bavarian linneage? So you’re suggesting that they were upset when America said time to kill some Nazis? Hmmm, way to garner votes. Also, what fucking “concept” is he talking about? Since when has slaughtering people been a “concept”?

…as it did the Japanese in America. When we fought Japanese imperialism it offended a lot of Japanese”

Yeah. It wasn’t having their property and assests taken and being locked up in “internment” camps that offended Japanese Americans. They liked that part.

Also note the irony of a raving homophobe saying Nazis are bad. He probably jerks off over photos of prisoners with pink triangles on their prison uniforms.

    Get. Rid. Of. Him.

  • Eric #13 – I have ben wordering that too. Will they pull a reverse Clinton and instead of prepping the next administration, purposefully drop the ball on counter-terrorism to make their predictions come true. The Republicans are unhinged now at the threats of Dems returning to Congressional power, how will they be if Dem gets elected president?

  • Santorum may be using craziness in order to get free media coverage. Neither he nor the RNC has any adds currently running in PA and they have, at the moment, no plans to do so. From Kos:

According to publicly available reports, Rick Santorum is now 100% dark in Pennsylvania, having paid for no campaign ads today. Santorum has spent more than $9 million on ads so far, but his latest media buy ended last night. Since national Republicans aren’t airing independent ads in Pennsylvania, that means nobody will be on the air on Santorum’s behalf until Santorum himself pays to go back on. So far, Santorum has yet to reserve ad time for the final two weeks of the campaign.

  • ***the Gauleiter of Pennsylvania***
    ———————————————————Alibubba

Gee—and I thought he was just the self-designated Sturmbannfuhrer for the Keystone Chapter of the Waffen SS….

  • Republicrooks!! Ha-ha! I like that. Send em back to the swamp they crawled out of. You know, almost everything the Repugs say about Dems and liberals is really true about themselves.

  • Gee ricky

If you look it up, you will find that Germany declared war on The US. Again, that would put you on the wrong side of the arguement you seem to be trying to make.
As for ricky’s ads, I have seen several today on CNN (here in SW PA), so he is definately not derk as of 10/24. I smile every time I see one of his ads, because I know it cost money, but it won’t make a bit of difference to the election’s outcome.

    Peace

  • Ah, Rick you incredible slut, when you use these tired old Nazi analogies, I think back to the immortal Spike Jones and recall those words of wisdom:

“Ven dey say ve is da master race, ve heil (pffttt) heil (pffttt) right in der Fuehrer’s face”.

What an assclown. Bye, bye, Rick, don’t let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out.

  • Man on Dog Santorum and the rest of his repukiacan cabal have done more damage to America, Americans, the constitution and the American culture than the Nazis ever dreamed of doing. These scum deserve the absolute most horrible fate possible. They are the worst that humainty has ever offered up and need to be destroyed at all cost. Viva la revolution!

  • Eric at 13 says “can we keep close oversite on the CIA and FBI to make sure that Bush loyalists in those agencies don’t decide to take a “coffee break” and allow another catastrophie to occur after Democrats assume power.”

I think that the career employees at the CIA and FBI are chomping at the bit to have the neocons out of power. If the bush appointees try to screw things up within those agencies any more than they have, there won’t be enough plumbers in Washington to plug the leaks from below. Hopefully these leaks will flow to a congress that will be willing to provide oversight and investigation as to How Things Got So Screwed Up.
At any rate, I can dream….and vote.

  • It will give me great pleasure in pulling the lever against Senator “Prime Time” But don’t be sad all you Santorum followers his Big Daddy Dubya will find him a job and his face will still be seen all over the place. Or maybe we could get lucky and he will go to K Street be a lobbyist and roomate with his pal Abramoff.

  • As our country crosses the 9 trillion dollar debt mark, please PA voters- send this guy packing. He has no individual thought and is a creation of the RNC. The White House should have bankrupted the country over the next two years and established marshall law. Get them out before this happens.

    GCA

  • Santorum working on a new ad……

    (cue A-Team theme tune)

Remember…………. if you have a problem (terrorism), if no one else can help (implying democrats), and if you can find them (republicans) , maybe you can hire the A-Team (Santorum)

  • What Ricky boy is doing is the using the same, old, tired approach the Republicans have been using for over 150 years — scare tactic. That won’t work anymore Ricky boy. We, the American people are hip to your tricks, and your continuing to attempt to scare us into voting for a party that is 1.) anti-american, 2.) anti-traditional American values, 3.) and determined to destroy OUR great nation will only result in even more votes for the opposition party. Kiss your rear goodbye Ricky — your political career is over. In fact, I bet we dont elect another Republican majority for at least the next 100 years. One last thing — why is it the Republicans profess a great “love” of America while at the same time they are shoving a knife into America?

  • don’t break your arm patting yourself on the back, Rick. These bozos are so full of themselves, and I hope that the whole bunch has some sleepless nights happening right about now. Karma, my friend–perhaps you forgot about it. But I guess to know about it would mean that you’d have to be open-minded enough to do some research on religions other than your own.

  • How long before Ricky calls for Republicans to take up arms against Democrats so that he can get reelected?

  • This morning, NPR Morning Edition’s Steve Inskeep interviewed Santorum. The man is delusional about his place in history. I’m a Pennsylvania resident and the sooner we put this Republican out to pasture, the better.

  • Republicans are saying that WHEN they have been removed from power they will refuse to help the Democrats prevent a terrorist attack on America about which they may even have prior knowledge?
    I’d call that Treason.
    Pure and simple.
