Well, that was unpleasant

Apparently, the day before the election, there’s someone who doesn’t want you to read The Carpetbagger Report, so he or she decided to attack the database.

Everything appears to be back on track, at least for now. Obviously, I regret the inconvenience (and the spectacularly bad timing of the inconvenience).

Welcome back. I was jonesing. 🙂

I suspect the saboteur was either Roger Ailes or Roger Ailes.

  • I was amazed they thought you the one to attack 😉

Being as TCR is so balanced and sane after all.

  • I heard the evangelicals in Colorado say that they were taking a fast from politics, so perhaps someone decided that we should all follow suit. I can’t fast though, I am having a nervous breakdown waiting for the results. How silly is that?

  • We’re not really sure what the problem was, frankly (a process was running the database at max, and every time they’d be able to bring the site back up it would start up again).

Any mySQL &/or WordPress gurus out there??? Seriously, I don’t really know what I’m doing, and forget about Steve!

  • I don’t know if it was a coincidence or not but I could get through to Think Progress this afternoon either. I finally able to bring them up about the same time that you came back.

  • If there was a process that kept running every time you started up, the only thing I can think of (and this comes from quite limited experience, so take it with a grain of salt) is that your hosting company was doing some work on the server.

If they weren’t, then it was definitely a DoD attack. Have you contacted your hosting company to see if other sites on the server were having the same issues?

Other than that, good to see all is well — the site crashed right as I was leaving a comment.

    I swear it wasn’t me … 🙂

  • I don’t know you may want to take it as a compliment, a backhanded one, but a compliment nonetheless.

  • Rhody Jim @9 – “The Internet “tubes” must have gotten clogged.”

LOL – clearly Ted Stevens was behind all of this.

CB – I take back my comment that you were trying to get out of giving me the book when my prediction for tomorrow comes true!!

  • In honor of Michael J. Fox and his courageous work during this campaign, I’d like to suggest that the problem lies with the flux capacitor.

  • I was wondering what happened.
Then I thought, what if the entire left side of the blogosphere goes down – we’ll be blind!
Anyhow, welcome back – I need my daily dose.

  • ET had it right. You should feel flattered.
In the late ’60’s we were always encouraged when undercover law enorcement types started to show up at our meetings. It made us feel important.
It was easy to spot them. They were the ones who wanted to blow something up.

  • You’ve arrived, CB–congrats! Either that or Diebold was doing a test run taking over the universe.

  • ***Then I thought, what if the entire left side of the blogosphere goes down – we’ll be blind!***
    ——————————————————–shingles.

Well, I don’t know about the rest of you—but if that happens, I’m gonna single-handedly invade the right side, and wage some serious whoop-ass upon their ugly carcasses. Floating IP’s are quite nice for that kind of thing, y’know.

Good to see you back on the attack, Mr. CarpetBagger….

  • I couldn’t get through to Think Progress either, and my browser is still having trouble with the “back” button after reading all the comments. No doubt the attack was by the same Brownshirts who removed all of my candidate poster from my lawn last night. 😉

  • My troubleshooting experience is limited to plugging error messages into Google, but I’ve found this to be pretty effective when it comes to MySQL errors. Give it a try or you can email me and I can see what I can come up with.

  • As appropriate a time and place as any to say Thanks Mr. CB for all the insight, info and analysis you have provided as a prelude to our momentous day tomorrow. Thanks to all commentors for ongoing wit, wisdom and fine snark. And last but not least; Thanks to Al Gore for giving us the internet to sort everything out on.

A big day tomorrow. May the force be with us. Good luck.
