Two of those “harbinger” races that everyone’s been watching are Indiana’s 8th and 2nd, featuring two vulnerable GOP incumbents in a red state.
In the 8th, incumbent Rep. John Hostettler (R) is up against challenger Brad Ellsworth (D); in the 2nd, Rep. Chris Chocola (R) is facing challenger Joe Donnelly (D). If Dems are going to take back the House, these are two races that should be Dem pick-ups.
As of right now, Ellsworth appears to be cruising to victory and Donnelly is up by 20 points with about a quarter of pricincts reporting. That’s clearly reassuring.
In other news:
* Sens. Nelson (D-Fla.), Kennedy (D-Mass.), Lott (R-Miss.), and Snowe (R-Maine) have all been declared winners, surpisng absolutely no one.
* TP noticed an interesting tidbit from US News & World Report: “Fifty-seven percent of late deciders, the Fox exit polls show, are breaking for the Democrats, and 39 percent for Republicans. This is a very important harbinger.”
