Maybe the old saying is right, elections do have consequences.
Defense Secretary Donald H. [tag]Rumsfeld[/tag], a key target of Iraq war critics, is stepping down, Republican officials said on Wednesday.
Former CIA Director Robert [tag]Gates[/tag] will replace him, Republican officials said.
Earlier today, a spokesman for Rumsfeld said he’d given no indication that he would step down in the wake of Democratic election gains. The spokesman said Rumsfeld would work with Congress on Iraq but added that the focus on stabilizing the country will remain the same.
This announcement comes just a week after the president said publicly Rumsfeld would stay on through 2008.
It just goes to show that Democrats in Washington are already improving the government, and it’s not even January yet.
