A hint of future plans for Moore?

I continue to watch Roy Moore’s every move, hoping (probably in vain) that the lunatic will actually launch a presidential run and siphon a few votes away from Bush on Election Day. With that in mind, there was a small but interesting story in the Alabama AP yesterday.

You’d think that Moore’s ultra-conservative ideology would lead him to have certain preferences in this year’s presidential race. At a minimum, you’d suspect he isn’t a John Kerry fan.

But when asked which candidate he’s planning to support, Moore hedged.

Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore says he’s not ready to pick between President Bush and Democratic challenger John Kerry.

Moore told The Associated Press Wednesday he has no immediate plans to endorse either major party candidate in the November election.

It’s impossible, of course, to read Moore’s mind (and what a mind it is) and understand his motivations. Maybe he’s not endorsing Bush because he doesn’t want to endorse a future presidential rival. Or perhaps Moore is waiting to see if he can extract some more promises from desperate Republicans who fear the consequences of a Moore campaign. With someone who is this far out of touch with reality, it’s really hard to say.

Nevertheless, it keeps hope alive. Run, Roy, run.
