An update on Jukebox John

For those keeping score at home, we’re up to 69. I just added these three:

* McCain staunchly opposed Obama’s Iraq withdrawal timetable, and even blasted Mitt Romney for having referenced the word during the GOP primaries. In July, after Iraqi officials endorsed Obama’s policy, McCain said a 16-month calendar sounds like “a pretty good timetable.”

* In June, McCain rejected the idea of a trial for Osama bin Laden, and thought Obama’s reference to Nuremberg was a misread of history. A month later, McCain argued the exact opposite position.

* McCain was for presidential candidates giving speeches in foreign countries before he was against it.

I hope readers will keep ’em coming. It’s hard to guess, but I suspect we should be able to pass 70 fairly soon.

  • Unlike McCain these flipflops are coming fast and hard.

This is a natural article for a magazine. McCain at 72…flipflops.

  • It’s hard to guess, but I suspect we should be able to pass 70 fairly soon.

Let’s see. We stand at 69 and you’re cautiously predicting that will hit 70 fairly soon. Hell, at this rate, I think 100 before the election might even be too cautious a prediction.

  • And today McCain had the nerve to attack Obama for his supposed flip-flop on the surge.

What the hell? Is this some Rovian thing where you attack your opponent for your own weakness? Or is he just assuming the media whores are too gullible to call him on this?

Yes, that last one was rhetorical.

  • Just a thought and not to be picky, but… The visual metaphor for this feature is a weathervane (makes sense) but the verbal metaphor is a jukebox (also makes sense). But don’t you have a mixed metaphor going here?

  • Given that we’re talking about Jukebox John, the term “updates” seems rather old-school. Maybe—since we are talking about how “the stench of the old corpse” just keeps getting worse every time he adds to his “political putrefaction,” we might call them “downwinds.”

As “you don’t want to be downwind from this guy any more. He just stinks really bad—and it’s getting worse all the time….”

  • I predict Jukebox John will reach the magic 70 mark the next time he opens his mouth.

  • Re: the weather vane metaphor…

I have a new suggested theme song for the McCain campaign:

“The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind.
The answer is blowing in the wind.”
