And then there were three

Dems need six pick-ups to take back the Senate, and as of now, they appear to have three.

CNN just declared Sheldon Whitehouse (D) the winner over Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R) in Rhode Island. This, in addition to Pennsylvania and Ohio, gives the Dems a net gain of three so far tonight.

In other news:

* CNN is reporting that Sen. Joe Lieberman (I) will keep his Senate seat.

* MSNBC is reporting that Ben Cardin (D) will win Maryland’s open Senate seat (which, frankly, I’ve been worried quite a bit about).

* Everyone is calling Amy Klobuchar (D) as the winner of Minnesota’s open Senate seat. (I’ve never been entirely clear on why Republican Mark Kennedy was supposed to the GOP’s next superstar; he seems to have been beated badly today).

* In some of the less high-profile races, both Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D) and Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) have been declared winners in Michigan, and Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) is slated to get a second term.

Stay tuned.

I’m happy about most of these races, but very unhappy that Lieberman was able to buy and lie his way to another term. From what I’ve read here and there, many voters in CT weren’t getting the true story about Lyin’ Joe.

Joe showed his true colors by harrasing the Democratic nominee. He’s a rethug at heart.

  • Amazing! Blackwell, Harris, and Santorum all flushed away in one evening! I think someone should see if all the rethugs who lost their seats will go over to IRAQ with Colin Powell and look for the WMD…..

  • rahm emanuel just said the “r” word on msnbc: “reconciliation” of the parties. there can be no reconciliation. when will the dems learn that the repubs can’t be trusted and they don’t share power? it’s time to stick it to them.

  • Ahh, the “Dem Whitehouse.” If only…..

I hadn’t heard much of anything about the Minnesota race, so I guess that’s a good win there as well.

  • #1 Hannah

Yeah, if the Dems had gone in strong and told their story then Lamont may have had a chance. He was within 5% points I think. The Senate is still more for each other than they are for the people. If Lamont had won he should have threatened to caucus with the Repubs. 🙂

  • Is anyone tracking whether any Dem-held seats are being won by GOP, even open seats? Even one would spoil the Golden Sweep.

  • The Answer is Orange + 17 I hardly recognized you. The way Republicans are being so abusive I hope Santorum doesn’t go home and kick his dog until it hides in the bathroom and dials 911.

Here’s what I’ve figured out so far:
    0+8 = 8
    10+6=16
    9+8= 17

    Pass it along.

  • Oh thank god cardin took MD. I’m not a huge cardin fan, but anything is better than steele. And yeah, I was quite worried about this race too.

  • JRS Jr. – Are you enlisting tomorrow? Lieberman can kiss my ass, I hope he jumps ship. We don’t want him. Period. Also, you’re annoying and I don’t like you.

Nice job, on the addition, though. I seriously figured you couldn’t do it.

  • thanks doubtful.. what happens if you’re sitting 50-50, will you throw joe under the bus then? Perhaps youu should check up on your math skills.

  • At 23:12, with 96.6 returns in, Allen is 49.69, Webb is 49.10 (in VA)

Since the “answer is in addition” ate my previous posting, I’ll quickly restate my willingness to wring Ms Parker (Independent Green = Christians for rail transport)’s scrawny neck, since she’s stolen 1.1% from Webb. And played coy for a couple of weeks before “somewhat endorsing” Webb a couple of days ago.

I *hate* this numbers ID (Dale, your sightings are no effin’ good; the numbers keep changing, every time. Even on the same “thread”) Can I claim “commenter suppression”?

  • what happens if you’re sitting 50-50, will you throw joe under the bus then? JRS Jr

You and FOX can have him. A majority is meaningless when you have a warmongering enabler like him stabbing you in the back.

You didn’t mention which branch you were enlisting in…101st Keyboarders? Why do you hate our soldiers?

  • gotcha doubtful, much thanks… CT will benefit nicely for Joe’s independence and potential value to both parties. Just think, that seat could have been a lock fo the dems, now he’s a “?”.
