At least one reporter knows a good story when she sees it

The other day, in a post about Boykin’s controversial religio-political record, I said that the media missed the fact that the evangelism flap isn’t the general’s first foray into a church-state controversy.

Specifically, in the Spring, Boykin was misusing the military facilities and personnel at Ft. Bragg, N.C., for — you guessed it — a Southern Baptist evangelist program.

What I should have said was that nearly all of the media overlooked this controversy. On April 6, the New York Times’ Laurie Goodstein saw the importance of the story and ran an excellent article (which no longer has an active link).

Sorry for leaving you out, Laurie. Won’t happen again.
