At least someone is sticking up for ‘the white Christians who hold power’

Last week, [tag]Fox News[/tag]’ [tag]John Gibson[/tag] urged white people to “get busy” and “make babies.” This week, Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly took a firm stand in defense of the “[tag]white[/tag] [tag]Christians[/tag] who hold power” in this country.

During the May 16 edition of Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor, host Bill O’Reilly claimed that The New York Times and “many far-left thinkers believe the white power structure that controls America is bad, so a drastic change is needed.” O’Reilly continued: “According to the lefty zealots, the white Christians who hold power must be swept out by a new multicultural tide, a rainbow coalition, if you will.” O’Reilly’s comments came during a discussion of opposition by the Times and others to deploying the National Guard to help secure the border.

There you have it. Fox News — the network of paranoid xenophobia. Again.

Honestly, do you suppose Fox News employees ever get embarrassed by what their network broadcasts to the public? How about its viewers?

“Honestly, do you suppose Fox News employees ever get embarrassed by what their network broadcasts to the public? How about its viewers?”

Of course not: it’s res ipsa loquitor — the thing speaks for itself. First, the Rethugs in charge at Faux Nooz are preaching to its choir, so the viewers don’t use any critical thinking to discern the mendacity and ridiculousness.

Second, the vast majority of those who work at Faux Nooz are just getting a paycheck, the working schlubs, and are therefore no more responsible for what occurs than a GM factory worker was responsible for the crap GM built in the 1980s. The editors, on-air ariheads, etc. though, ARE very complicit with the shit they are shoveling, and are exceedingly corrupt because they have made their Faustian bargain to sell out America’s soul for a few extra dollars and the glow that comes from being so close to power and fame.

The powers-that-be are the real bastards, as they are leading the charge over the cliff, and happily doing so. Truly, they are the “Complicit” part of the CCCP (Compliant Complicit Corporate Press).

  • I don’t think its viewers ever get embarassed. Plus, they love that kind of commentary. I heard that Fox News might be cutting an exclusive endorsement deal with an organization whose members are big fans of the network. For a hefty fee, they will be changing the network name to FoKKKx News.

  • I know he probably didn’t mean it exactly how it sounds, but you know, I don’t even care. People too often excuse themselves with that kind of comment. “My choice of words was bad. I did not mean to imply any sort of supremacy, etc., etc.”

But here’s the thing: YOU WORK IN TELEVISION. Your choice of words is your trade. You’re not allowed to use “my bad” as an excuse for what you say. Slip of the tongue? Mispronunciation? Fine. Statement standing up for a “white power structure?” Not fine.

  • It seems the sanctity of life ” white Christians who hold power” seem to find white life is more sacred than the rainbow variety.

  • “…ever get embarrassed?”

If you’re an on-air personality on Fox News (as well as any other infotainment commercial), you live and die by your “image.” Gibson, O’Reilly, et al aren’t embarrassed at all by their absurd, insane articulations. In fact, I’d say they’re rather proud of their ramblings and actually believe the crap they spout.

Us “real-world” participants couldn’t do two days consecutively doing/saying those things without banging our heads against the wall and going certifiably nuts. Would YOU say what they say every day if you didn’t believe it?

  • They’re not even bothering to speak in code words any longer. I wonder what that signifies?

  • “many far-left thinkers believe the white power structure that controls America is bad” – Bill O’Reilly

Possibly true. Moderate thinkers just think that the Republicanites who control America are corrupt and incompetent. See, we can make specific accusations, and not just use the word ‘bad’.

  • Typical rightwing ploy – throw out the extreme, get it out there, and a few years down the road it isn’t so extreme anymore because there is no organized resistance from the left. Thank goodness that is changing. If the current generation of Dem’s won’t condemn it, the base will bring in a new generation. Where is the outrage from congressional Dems? I’m hoping that it is they are being ignored (as usual) by the media as opposed to them being silent.

  • When you strip the layers of skin/”values” off folks who believe that one group/tribe/religious of humans is less incompentant than another all you end up with is a stupid asshole. This admin highlights the collective human failure to look beyond commonality of “values” or “looks” rather than the quality of the individual.

Perhaps ole Bill O’Reilly should realize that it was not long ago that “decent” Americans once thought the Irish were lower on the scale of “respectability” than even the Blacks and the Chinese. And that in certain parts of the “Christian” world, Catholics are not considered Christians.

  • “I know he probably didn’t mean it exactly how it sounds, but you know, I don’t even care.” – jhupp

Oh, he did, trust me. He used pretty much the exact same words to describe the situation on yesterday’s Radio Factor as well. He had plenty of time between the radio and TV program to change his words, but not surprisingly, he didn’t.

This is just a great example of how paranoid O’Reilly is about shaking up the establishment. No wonder he abhores the word “progressive.”

  • I know calling attention to O’Reilly’s self-contradiction is pointless, but it is fun. Next December when he reprises the War on Christmas-and he will-,which is predicated on the the absurd notion that Christians are the victims of a powerful secularist elite, we should all remind him of his admission that it is the “white Christians who hold power. “

  • Wilhelm von Reilly seems the type of guy who probably sings the Hoerst Wessel to himself—morning, noon, and night—whilst quaffing cheap beer and cowtowing to his Aryan alter with a full-color portrait of Herr Hitler, bracketed by black-and-red candles, an SS dagger, a swastika pennant, and a big “Go Whitey!” bumper sticker tacked to the wall. He reminds me of the squishy little “neo-zeno” character played by Henry Gibson in “The Blues Brothers.” He’s also proof that the Dodo Bird didn’t exactly go extinct—it just “de-evolved” into a sinister, quasi-human/lemming/mosquito kind of life form.

All that “the silly bundist network” needs now is to revamp their logo. Take the “FOX,” mount a big eagle with outspread wings atop the “O,” and put a swastika right in the middle of that “O.” And there you have it—the logo of the Fourth Reich.

  • TL, you’re probably right. As I went back and read what I wrote, it suddenly struck me as absurd. There are a lot of conservatives who could say that and not mean it as it sounded (for whom my criticism would still stand), but yeah, you’re right. O’Reilly’s a talk radio conservative, which ipso facto puts him in the paranoid racist camp.

  • I really wonder how many of the clowns on Fox and Clear Channel really believe what they spew, or are they just exploitng the fears and paranoias of the predominantly white male audience that watch and listen to them. Some of the shit I’ve heard goofballs like Savage and Boorz clammer about makes me believe that they’re more interested in creating “controversy” that props up their ratings and advertiser money than about doing anything beneficial for others.

They’re showmen and flim-flam men, and nothing else.

  • And I repeat my thought from the John Gibson thread: If Hillary tacitly condones this stuff by buddying up to Rupert Murdoch without doing a Sister Souljah on him, she can stop wasting all of her damned mailings on me.

  • There you go again, complaining about Rethuglicain TV. What do you expect from those mindless bigots, a fair and balanced presentation of the facts. Rethuglicain TV fails to understand history so they are doomed to repeat it.

  • I suspect that those responsible believe it just about as much as O’Brien in 1984 did.

  • What’s wrong with anything white? Things exist for the Latinos, Africans and everyone else except for the white people who are always called racist if they want the same ideas and concepts for their heritage… Wasn’t David Duke a Dem? Hypocracy at its best..

  • O’Reilly is on this rant again today on the Radio Factor. Once again, he isn’t changing his tune about the “White Christians in Power” theory.

  • There’s nothing wrong with being white or whatever. My issue is that we have a bunch of folks who scream about being a poor persecuted “minority” and then swagger about being the ones in power. So which is it?

As for David Duke being a Dem. Gee, haven’t you ever heard of the Dixiecrats who pushed segregation and separate but equal? Considering that the Republicans with their Southern Strategy went and actively recruited them. Who’s kidding who?

  • Here’s the thing people don’t mention because they are afraid to sound shrill. No one on the right cares about anyone but White Americans. Their Iraq support just typifies their views that American lives(especially the rich who will never see war) are more important then anyone elses. Look at it this way, they pound on the table saying Saddam was a tyrant who murdered thousands of innocents because that’s the only war reason they have left to stand on, but how does that equate to the thousands that we dropped bombs on and killed and maimed? What makes GWB any more moral for ordering this for no provable reason and against every international consensus?
