The AP is reporting that Bob Graham’s top campaign spokesman, Jamal Simmons, has resigned.
Simmons told Graham the news “as other key staff met at Graham headquarters in Miami Lakes, Fla., to discuss how — or whether — to proceed with the campaign,” the report said.
I hate to say it, but Simmons was about the best thing the Graham campaign had going for them. He is a sharp, experienced campaign professional. It was a coup for Graham to pick him up and it’s a very bad sign now that’s he’s moving on.
Simmons didn’t even try and offer some kind of “spend more time with my family” kind of excuse, saying only that this was “just the right time for me to move on.” It makes it sound like he’s leaving a sinking ship.
Put a fork in Graham. He’s done.
