Better unplug the jingoistic warmongering and do us all a favor

Vice President Dick Cheney’s appearance at a late January memorial service at Auschwitz in a goofy green parka and knit hat sparked justifiable outrage. This was a solemn occasion, and here was Cheney looking like he’d wandered in from the set of “Northern Exposure.” What’s worse, Morbo happens to know that Cheney once worked for Halliburton and could have afforded proper attire — a long dark wool coat, pearl-gray fedora, black leather gloves and a suitable muffler. Clown.

Less has been said about Condoleezza Rice’s decision to visit U.S. troops at Wiesbaden Army Airfield in Germany Feb. 23 dressed in Klingon battle gear.

Actually, a fashion writer for The Washington Post did comment on Rice’s attire, speculating that it had dominatrix overtones. I see no need to go that far. Rice simply stole the look from 1980s glam rocker Adam Ant.

With luck, Rice’s career will soon begin to parallel Mr. Ant’s.
