Bush isn’t really putting pen to paper

I can appreciate that some want to maintain the façade that the president’s words are his own, but the idea that Bush is writing his own convention speech is pretty silly.

Q: How is work coming on your convention speech? What should we expect from it?

Bush: …In terms of the speech, I’m working on it. But I don’t want to give you any tidbits —

Q: Just a little bit.

Bush: I don’t want to give you any tidbits, for fear that you may not pay attention when I actually stand up there and deliver it.

Are we really to believe that Bush has told his team of professional speechwriters to take the month off so he can literally “work” on his own speech? And what do you imagine that speech would sound like if he really did?
