Bush welcomes life ‘outside the bubble’

Ordinarily, the president resists acknowledging the “bubble” that shields him from dissent, opposition, and reality, but yesterday, Bush said he actually welcomes the opportunity to enjoy life outside the bubble. Unfortunately, it’s under extremely limited circumstances.

“For me, this is a chance to feel like I’m outside the bubble…. I get the sense of freedom,” [Bush] said.

And what was it Bush was describing? Under what conditions will this carefully-shielded president finally step out of his bubble?

When he rides his bicycle.

The “outside the bubble” quote was Bush talking to Sal Ruibal, a sportswriter for USA Today, who accompanied the president on a mountain bike ride around Bush’s ranch in Crawford.

The comments actually offer some insight into Bush’s approach to public discourse. Will the president step outside his bubble to talk about the war with a grieving parent? No. Will the president step outside his bubble to talk to Americans concerned about the future of Social Security? No. Will the president step outside his bubble to talk to voters in a presidential campaign who haven’t already sworn allegiance to him personally? No.

Bush will, however, allow a sports reporter to join him for a bike ride.

Way to break out of your comfort zone and experience freedom, Mr. President.

“I think the people want the president to be in a position to make good, crisp decisions and to stay healthy”

Yes, Mr President we do, but instead we got you, the delusional, sociopath, with imperialistic tendancies and an appalling lack of veracity. And we are also stuck with the two chubbettes who don’t appear to get too much exercise, but are the actual brains of the operation.

I think you will need to cite examples of good crisp decisions. I cannot think of a single one.

    🙂

Even ‘outside the bubble,’ he’s still in the bubble!

  • There used to be a saying that every generation gets a war- now every generation gets a Nixon? Sounds suspiciously like HST’s interview (when he was a sportswriter) with Nixon- only rule was that he could only talk sports.

I think the source for that was “Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail ’72”.

Ah, well, hopefully GWB will share Nixon’s fate.

  • Bush is such a hack. I can’t believe so many people approve of him.
I hope he spends his eternity in the WOODSHED.

  • The Arizona Daily Star has a great take on this as it applies to the Cindy Sheehan story:

Bush said he is aware of the anti-war sentiments of Cindy Sheehan and others who have joined her protest near the Bush ranch.

“But whether it be here or in Washington or anywhere else, there’s somebody who has got something to say to the president, that’s part of the job,” Bush said on the ranch. “And I think it’s important for me to be thoughtful and sensitive to those who have got something to say. But, I think it’s also important for me to go on with my life, to keep a balanced life.”

The comments came prior to a bike ride on the ranch with journalists and aides.

  • What’s especially funny about this? The idea that one could carry on any sort of conversation while mountain biking in oppressive heat. Try it sometime.

  • “……But, I think it’s also important for me to go on with my life, to keep a balanced life.”

Just when you think Dear Fruitloop has reached an unsurpassable peak of disconnectedness and total obliviousness, he fools us all and sets a new personal best. That competitive spirit continues to shine through.

No bubble could constrain this much gas.

  • I read that bush will ride with Lance Armstrong (who will undoubtedly be riding very slowly (for him)) on Friday. Lance seems to be getting on the right track politically – maybe he will give bubbleboy a piece of his mind. Heaven knows he doesn’t have one (a mind), but maybe he will listen.

    Hahahahahahahahaha!!!

  • What a geek! He’s not even wearing a proper bike jersey (in the photos).

And what “crisp” decisions does he make? Good grief, the man is delusional.

  • I think the ‘bubble’ that the preznet refers to is the man-sized Habitrail hamster bubble Cheney and Rove keep him in when not in front of the cameras.
And his reference to ‘crisp decisions’ refers to whether he will eat his ‘preznet chow’ or lettuce for lunch.
