Cheney gets by with a little help from his friends

Salon’s Tim Grieve noticed that [tag]Dick Cheney[/tag] appeared on [tag]Sean Hannity[/tag]’s radio show yesterday and received the kind of harsh grilling that only a [tag]Fox News[/tag] personality can provide.

Hannity: Well, I got to admit, these are good times for the administration. You got — Zarqawi is dead, revenues are up significantly, the deficit has been cut significantly, the president’s trip. And I’m also told there’s some breaking news that a high-value insurgent has again been captured in Iraq just now.

Cheney: Well, you’re ahead of me on that one. I knew about all the other stuff, Sean, but I hadn’t heard that one yet.

Hannity: See, that’s why I’m here, to bring you good news.

Cheney: That’s right. (Laughter.) I got to tune in every day to find out what’s really going on in the world.

Hannity: Three hours a day, Mr. [tag]Vice President[/tag], is all we ask….

They’re just two peas in a pod, aren’t they?

Of course, it’s not like [tag]Cheney[/tag] only sits down for these kinds of fair-and-balanced “interviews,” right? Surely the VP likes to mix it up with those willing to challenge him a bit? Out of curiosity, I went back and checked the Vice President’s media appearances in 2006. Consider this impressive record:

* May 16, 2006, interview by [tag]Rush Limbaugh[/tag]

* March 29, 2006, interview by [tag]Tony Snow[/tag]

* February 15, 2006, interview by Fox News’ [tag]Brit Hume[/tag]

* February 3, 2006, interview by [tag]Laura Ingraham[/tag]

* February 1, 2006, interview by Rush Limbaugh

* January 20, 2006, interview by [tag]Hugh Hewitt[/tag]

* January 19, 2006, interview by Fox News’ [tag]Neil Cavuto[/tag]

* January 19, 2006, interview CNBC’s [tag]Larry Kudlow[/tag] (toughest question: “Do you get a fair shake in the media on the economy? Isn’t the economy kind of an underrated story?”)

* January 11, 2006, interview by [tag]Tony Snow[/tag]

* January 11, 2006, interview by [tag]Sean Hannity[/tag]

Call me crazy, but I think there’s some kind of pattern here.

Looks like he gets interviewed by his tribe about as often as Halliburton cuts him a check for services rendered.

You suppose he is drawing a speaker fee from Fox?

  • Hey, he can’t handle a “hard” interview. Too bad for the ol ticker, you know!

  • Who needs Pravda when we have Fox.

    I love it when I hear conservatives complaining about the MSM and then describe what they look for in a ‘fair and balanced’ news source. It always reminds me of Soviet era news reporting:

    ‘All the news the government sees fit to print’

  • I’m sure that the other channels would welcome him, but he could hurt them (FCC obscenity charge) when he tells a real interviewer to “Go Fuck yourself.”

  • Well, what do you expect? It’s not like Josef Goebbels is around to interview him…

  • Ah, you guys have to let Cheney go out and talk to his friends…

    … it’s not like Boy George II listens to him anymore 😉
