Clark sets Lieberman straight

You know what’s really entertaining? To think back to the 2004 Democratic presidential debates, when Joe Lieberman questioned whether Wesley Clark was sufficiently committed to the Democratic Party.

Today, Lieberman is a Republican in nearly everything but name, while Clark is doing his due diligence to set him straight on foreign policy. Lieberman’s comments from Sunday, when the senator said “we’ve got to use our force” against Iran, seem to have set Clark off.

Senator Lieberman’s saber rattling does nothing to help dissuade Iran from aiding Shia militias in Iraq, or trying to obtain nuclear capabilities. In fact, it’s highly irresponsible and counter-productive, and I urge him to stop.

This kind of rhetoric is irresponsible and only plays into the hands of President Ahmadinejad, and those who seek an excuse for military action. What we need now is full-fledged engagement with Iran. We should be striving to bridge the gulf of almost 30 years of hostility and only when all else fails should there be any consideration of other options. The Iranians are very much aware of US military capabilities. They don’t need Joe Lieberman to remind them that we are the militarily dominant power in the world today.

Only someone who never wore the uniform or thought seriously about national security would make threats at this point. What our soldiers need is responsible strategy, not a further escalation of tensions in the region. Senator Lieberman must act more responsibly and tone down his threat machine…. We cannot let people like Joe Lieberman dictate the terms of this debate.

Well, we certainly shouldn’t let people like Joe Lieberman dictate the terms of this debate….

Here’s a cushion LIEberman. You’ll need it to sit down after that spanking.

  • Does anyone know if the good but deluded people of Connecticut are experiencing any buyers’ remorse? Are there any polls on how this creep plays with his home audience?

  • Gore/Clark 08! Last time a Tenesseean and Arkansan ran, they won. Spank them all every day, General. And God Bless you for speaking out.

  • Maybe Joe would understand something more simple…like STFU.

The sooner the media stop giving this whiner a microphone, the better.

  • I’m disappointed in the current irresponsible stands of Senator Joe Lieberman. Such saber rattling does not help the situation but, instead, is of great detriment to our security and that of the world. He should know diplomacy, not warmongering, is the key to ensuring security.

Senator Lieberman acts more and more like Bush’s Republican warmongering cronies than the once highly admired Democratic vice presidential candidate.

  • Is Joe bad on domestic policy too? Maybe we shouldn’t completely alienate him, although I agree that the Iran comments were ill-advised.

On a different note, if the White House thought that Pelosi’s visit to Syria was inappropriate, shouldn’t they be apoplectic with Leiberman?

  • Only someone who never wore the uniform or thought seriously about national security would make threats at this point.

Looking over his career, has anyone seen Holy Joe ever think seriously about anything? This guy’s all cardboard case and no beer (going back to dad’s profession).

So when is JRS Jr. going to come drool all over his favorite Senator???

  • Way to go Clark. I am really surprised that more congress members and other representatives have not come out and reprimanded Jerusalem Joe for his threatening comments.
These are not the actions of a “representative” of the American people. We are not a country of war mongers.
Why isn’t Jerusalem Joe trying harder to find a peaceful solution instead of clamoring for war first.
Jerusalem Joe has got to go. He doesn’t have to fight in a war. His sons and daughters aren’t killing and being killed. He stands back, more than willing to get people killing each other rather than trying to get them to talk to each other. Where did he get the idea “he” knows what’s best or even good for America. He’s an embarrassment to America and please somebody slap him down.
Quit giving him face time on TV just to get headlines and then act all shocked at the crap that comes out of his mouth.

Jerusalem Joe has got to go. Jerusalem Joe has got to go.

  • “I think we’ve got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq,” – Lieberman

Tommy Boy, I have no problem with that statement if the Iranian governement is in fact directly sponsoring miltary action against our troops causing their deaths. Would you rather Joe send them a bouquet weith a love note saying “Honey, please stop suporrting the killing of our troops?”

  • …think back to the 2004 Democratic presidential debates, when Joe Lieberman questioned whether Wesley Clark was sufficiently committed to the Democratic Party…

    Now that’s how you destroy someone’s character…

  • Hillary Rosen, “Democratic consultant,” acceded to the characterization of Lieberman as a “Democrat” just last night on FTucker Carlson. Democrats need to promulgate some message control to those who identify themselves as Democrats on talk shows.

  • Lieberman is a classic case of a guy who had the spotlight and when it moved on keeps trying to get it back. He reminds me of Ann Coulter.

I wish I could hate him, but he’s just so pathetic.

As Frak #2 asked – how is he polling in CT?

  • Clark’s response lily-livered Joe LIE is excellent, esp the “only someone who never wore the uniform” bit; it ties nicely to some other people (no need to even name them) in exalted positions who fall into the same category. My only objection is the forum. Huffington Post? Who reads it, other than some rabid lefties and equally rabid trolls? I’d like to see it in NYT or WaPo.

  • If the corporate Republican media gave Clark the same treatment as they give Senator Joe we might have a shot at surviving the next few years. But they don’t, and so we won’t. We’ll be at war with Iran within a year.

  • I believe it to be up to the Democrats to nominate, and elect the good General Clark, not for the Reicht do it for them. If they can’t(or don’t want to) recruit and elect one of the most qualified men in our nation, then Clark should leave and either join the Greens, or form a new American Labor Party.
America deserves a third party, one that represents THE PEOPLE, not corporations.
Can you see a debate with Romney, Clinton and Clark?
    I can

  • Once upon a time, the Lieberwhiner was pathetic, but he’s now dangerous. And while I applaud Clark for trying, it won’t change the Liebermonger one bit. He passed the point of no return when he refused to abide by the CT primary.

  • LIEberman’s comments didn’t “set Clark off.” Wesley Clark has been campaigning against a war with Iran for months. I get emails from him often on this issue. He is really convinced Bushco is going to do it, and it will be catastophic. He goes on Faux a lot, but I don’t know if he talks about it there since I never watch it, but I hope so.

Also, LIEberman isn’t great on domestic issues either (David at #6). He’s in bed with the pharmaceutical industry and the insurance industry. His votes on abortion choice are really iffy. An example: He voted against Alito seemingly in sync with the choice movement, but he voted for cloture, thus allowing Alito to be confirmed. He’s just a big hypocrite.

Also, I second the Gore/Clark ticket.

  • I hope Clark succeeds in keeping us out of a war of Iran. He’s indicated that’s why he hasn’t been running for president, because he thinks he’s more effective at keeping us out of Iran behind the scenes.

But I hope we’ll also see him running before long.
