Clinton Derangement Syndrome – in print

When I worked at Americans United for Separation of Church and State for seven years, I read a lot of direct mail from bizarre religious-right groups. It was the ’90s, so most of it had a straightforward pitch: Bill Clinton will turn you into an atheist unless you send (fill in the blank) all of your money right now.

Now, Hillary Clinton is running strong, and as Ben Smith noticed, right-wing direct mail is compensating. This was a letter from Robert Grant, founder of the Unification Church-linked Americans for Faith and Freedom:

Dear Fellow Christian,
Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton have never made it a secret. They hate you. I know that because the Clintons hate me, too. Because you and I stood up to Bill Clinton. And now he wants revenge. […]

One-by-one, Bill and Hillary Clinton have taken revenge against the brave Congressmen who managed to impeach him. […]

Just as God’s grace helped David with his battle with Goliath, you and I have won battles with Bill Clinton before. […]

[I]f the Clintons and the ACLU get their way, one day it will be illegal to wear a cross around your neck… And it could be illegal to even say a private prayer unless you close your drapes first…. The radical ACLU has already succeeded in making The 10 Commandments illegal in Alabama. […]

Please don’t put this letter aside for even a day or two. Please sign your United Christian Voice Petition and return it to me today. And please include your emergency donation of at least $14…. If you and I don’t fight back, he’ll destroy us.

Remember, some people will see this and write a check.

The radical ACLU has already succeeded in making The 10 Commandments illegal in Alabama

Wait! When did this happen? I’m sure it would have made the papers down here. I still see 10 C’s all over the place. On the other hand, they did outlaw the sale of dildo’s and we have at least 3 store selling them right here in the capitol city. We really are going to hell.

  • When I worked at Americans United for Separation of Church and State for seven years, I read a lot of direct mail from bizarre religious-right groups.

Ha ha, where has all the fun gone.

  • Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton have never made it a secret. They hate you. I know that because the Clintons hate me, too. Because you and I stood up to Bill Clinton. And now he wants revenge.

    This is cartoonish.

Remember, some people will see this and write a check.

I agree wholeheartedly. It’s pathetic, the number of hucksters we have operating on people in this country. No one takes care of people and educates them.

  • Can you please provide the address so I can send my check right away? Oh, and do you think they’d accept Green Stamps?

  • Pretty soon, they’ll make it illegal to keep a cross in your pontificatin’ box, even.

What if you want to fight vampires with somethin’?

  • It’s depressing to think anyone is that stupid or filled with that much condescending hate. They don’t even mention who they support only who they hate.

What a mailing list that must be.

  • Ahh, so beep52 is on to something. Green stamps were the favorite of one Jim Jones. Thanks for the linkage from the past that so aptly fits the present in regard to Americans for Faith and Freedom. -Kevo

  • Whoever wins in 2008 needs to deal with these issues. It is pretty clear that these people are not getting a proper education, the education in this nation needs to be fixed and expanded.

A nation won’t survive with that level of ignorance and hatred.

  • After reading this and the article on the neocon cruise I’m convinced that these people all need to go to a shrink because they’re paranoid, delusional, ruled by fear, etc.

Why would good Baptists like Hill & Bill forbid people from wearing crosses, pray, etc.???

May the Good Lord help us! (And help them, though I’m sure they don’t think they need it.)

  • Why would good Baptists like Hill & Bill forbid people from wearing crosses, pray, etc.???

    They woudn’t.
Religion was never under attack by Bill Clinton in this nation, he and Hill attended church every Sunday. These people are just nuts, they need help.

  • The funny thing is that at least some of the people who, while reading this letter, nod their heads in agreement, are some oft the same people who label Democrats as having “Bush Derangement Syndrome” for lobbying much less outlandish criticisms at our current president.

  • “Remember, some people will see this and write a check.” Hell, now that I’ve seen it, it makes me want to write another check to the ACLU.

  • OMG!! The Clinton’s want to come to your house, steal your Bible, rape your cat and suck the living brain from your skull!!!

These people make me laugh, thanks for sharing that CB.

Remember, some people will see this and write a check.

Yep. A fuckwit and his money soon go separate ways.

  • yeah, and I’m sure that maybe .25 cents of that $14.00 ends up at the RNC but the rest must surely go to “administrative” cost.

I’m in the wrong business, I mean, all those gullible rednecks and so little time to make trainloads of money.

  • Watching these Republicants explode over the idea of having to deal with another Clinton is extremely entertaining.

However, thinking about these crusty christ-o-fascist living in the United States of America in the 21st centruy is extremely sad.
