I always thought [tag]Tom DeLay[/tag] was clearly in the wrong job when he held the House Majority Leader post, but rumor has it, he may actually be up for an even scarier job.
The White House is looking at a list of cost-cutting candidates to head the [tag]Office of Management and Budget[/tag], and Rep. Tom [tag]DeLay[/tag], R-Texas, may be on it.
The former House majority leader, who announced he will resign from Congress and is under a state indictment on political money laundering charges, is listed as a possible replacement for Josh Bolten, the U.S. News and World Report said.
It’s hard to imagine how any serious person would consider DeLay for the post, but then again, the White House decided that Harriet Miers was the most qualified lawyer in the country for the Supreme Court, too.
In fact, at least one high-profile conservative blogger seems to think this is a perfectly good idea. “No one knows more about the budget,” John Hinderaker said. “And I’d like to see the administration show some support for DeLay.”
At this point, it’s probably worth reminding folks that DeLay, shortly before the war in Iraq began, said, “Nothing is more important in the face of a war than cutting taxes.” He also said there is no more fat to cut from the federal budget, and that tax cuts are incapable of increasing the deficit because they pay for themselves.
In other words, if [tag]Bush[/tag] did tap DeLay to be his [tag]OMB[/tag] director, he’d fit right in.
