Dr. Laura’s Family Values

Right-wing talk radio gasbag Dr. Laura Schlessinger apparently didn’t do a very good job raising her son. Deryk Schlessinger, 21, is in the Army serving in Iraq; officials are investigating his Myspace page, which was full of “cartoon images of rape, murder, torture, child molestation, and more.” (Warning! This link contains a large, extremely frightening photo of Dr. Laura.)

Here are some other things the site contained: a photograph of a bound and blindfolded detainee captioned “My Sweet Little Habib,” tales of illicit drug use, profanity and racial slurs.

The fun doesn’t stop there. The site contains a charming blog, and here’s an excerpt from it: “Yes…F—ING Yes!!! I LOVE MY JOB, it takes everything reckless and deviant and heathenistic and just overall bad about me and hyper focuses these traits into my job of running around this horrid place doing nasty things to people that deserve it…and some that don’t.”

A spokesman for the Army, Robert Tallman, said some of the cartoons on the page, one of which depicted a woman being raped in front of her family, “are repulsive and not anywhere near being acceptable.”

On the other hand, Mike Paul, Dr. Laura’s spokesman, opined that the page might be a fake created by America’s enemies. I’m sure President George W. Bush will expose the al Qaeda connection any day now.

In December of 2002, Dr. Laura’s mother, Yolanda Schlessinger, was found murdered in her apartment in Beverly Hills. Police said the body had been there for some time. Why didn’t Dr. Laura become alarmed when she failed to hear from her mother? Because she had not talked to her mom for 10 years.

I think you can see now why millions of right-wingers turn to this woman for advice on how to raise well adjusted children and promote family harmony.

I’m shocked and awed! This is the price you pay when you stretch your military as thin as Ann O’rexic Coulter and declare war against an ideological tactic.

  • It seems rebellion from a dominating parent runs in the family.

    But let’s be truthful here: even good parents produce bad progeny. Think Kip Kengle in Oregon who went on a shooting spree. His parents by all acounts really tried to help him and failed. And bad parents can produce wonderful children.

    As much as I love bashing right-wingers, it isn’t always about parenting skills.

  • Will we live to see the day when the nation laughs at the notion of one party claiming a monopoly on “family values?” In a literal sense, the term is as meaningless as “pro-life.” I mean, where are the anti-life protesters (maybe they’re all dead?) or the anti-value family demonstrators? As a code word, of course, both are a convenient way to mask intolerance behind what sounds like moral high ground.

    That’s what makes this story newsworthy. It’s not what happened but the same old hypocrisy of claiming moral superiority, demanding others behave according to your rules while exempting yourself.

  • Jessica Flowers – Kip “Kengle’s” (Kinkel) parents, especially his father, did just about everything wrong in regard to Kip’s problems. If you had read or investigated “all accounts” you wouldn’t compare Kip “Kengle” to Deryk Schlessinger.

  • Though the results of troubled childhood doesn’t necessarily indicate bad upbringing in most cases it is a direct result of the torment of one or more of the parents. In Dr. Laura’s case it’s pretty obvious.

  • And then there are the nude photos of the hypocrite Dr. Laura allegedly taken while she was having out of wedlock sex and if I remember the story correctly; she was still married to her former hubby.

  • It’s OK to bash right wingers. Bashing right wingers is good. Bashing right wingers is fun. Every right wing bash causes another flower to bloom. When birds sing it’s because somewhere someone (God bless them) is bashing a right winger. Bash for light. Bash for joy. Just bash!

  • One correction about the death of Yolanda Schlesinger. The authorities thought at first that she might have been murdered, but it turned out that she died of cardiovascular disease.

    Sorry if my memory of spellings is less than perfect. I lived in Oregon just before this time period and knew people who knew his parents. Kip was born obsessed with guns.

    This imperfectly spelled example was to demonstrate that even the best parents can bring up an awful child. And awful parents can produce a great human being. And awful parents can produce an awful human being.

    I don’t blame parents for their adult children’s behavior. I blame adults for their own behavior.

    Dr Laura is not someone I’ve ever watched. I don’t watch Dr Phil or Oprah either. But as I learned growing up Christian (it didn’t stick), often the messenger is less perfect than the message.

  • The super self-righteous Dr. Laura has a book out entitled “10 stupid things parents do to mess up their kids”. Wonder how many copies will sell after this revelation.

  • As if it weren’t bad enough that the homo-phobic ‘arch-hypocrite’ one-time physiologist (by the way, she’s NOT a Psychologist) ‘Pseudo-Dr’ Laura’s misanthropic pseudo-Judaeic vitriol has destroyed not only her own mother’s life (the poor old lady was found bludgeoned to death rotting on a dirty kitchen floor nearly 3 months after her murder—Dr Laura having NOT even spoken to her for more than a decade) but has added misery & mayhem to countless persons desperately coming to her seeking so-called ‘professional’ help with family problems on that hideously inane radio ‘talk show’ of hers (most of the vomit flowing from her painted caustic lips are so mindlessly jejune they are positively laughable—unfortunately she doesn’t know she’s doing comedy…) : the recent child pornography & violent sex acts displayed by her hell-spawn son recently posted on MySpace.Com did NOT happen in a vacuum (and we can all thank our own very personal clan god there is only one such little abortion from her rotting thighs that we have to deal with on this planet) & echoes her own degraded moral character if we pause to consider all those cheery pornographic colour snaps of her naked, mis-shapen, flat-chested, spread-eagled stick-like body posted on the world wide web for the whole world to gawk at in Shock and Awe nearly ten years ago…the problem of course is that this particular type of religious right wing zealot-hypocrite tends to have AIPAC type corporate sponsorship along with a kind of Jim-Jones cult-like following among the deluded & Dumbed Down American masses that kept her sickeningly in the Public Ear for so many years now (‘What Would Moses Do…?!!!’ Actually he’d probably stone her then go out and genocide some more Amalekites just so he’d feel better after having had to look at her…)–so now we have to figure out WHAT THE HELL to do with that scheming ‘Little Boy-Toy’ of her’s, aka Deryk the Devil—maybe a nice LONG tour of the Back Streets of Baghdad on all Fours sniffing out all those Improvised Explosive Devices littering the backroads these days, courtesy of US Operation Shekhinah (better make it FIVE uninterrupted Tours in a row, like so many other US soldiers who have had to undergo that Hell-Hole just to keep people like his Mommykins in Mink)—or maybe we should just post a few pictures of sonny-boy spread eagle in positions suggestive of Guantanamo Bay Detainees…or maybe just a Simple Court Marshal…suffice it to say, ‘Doctor’ Laura and her little Monster are certainly ‘not good for the Jews’…in case AIPAC was wondering about that one…just a few thoughts off the top of my head this afternoon….
