Emails from the VP’s office reappear

Earlier this month, the New York Daily News reported an interesting tidbit about Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation into the Plame leak. The paper noted that Fitzgerald “said in a letter to Libby’s lawyers that many e-mails from Cheney’s office at the time of the Plame leak in 2003 have been deleted contrary to White House policy.”

What’s more, Fitzgerald’s letter said that “not all email of the Office of Vice President and the Executive Office of President for certain time periods in 2003 was preserved through the normal archiving process on the White House computer system.”

Last night, however, the AP reported that the missing emails have suddenly surfaced.

The defense was told that the White House had recently located and turned over about 250 pages of e-mails from the vice president’s office. Fitzgerald, in a letter last month to the defense, had cautioned Libby’s lawyers that some e-mails might be missing because the White House’s archiving system had failed.

I haven’t seen any real follow up yet, but this seems like a development that warrants a little more explanation. In September 2003, White House staff was ordered to preserve materials related to Fitzgerald’s investigation. More than two years later, Fitzgerald finds that a whole lot of emails that were supposed to have been archived are missing. More recently, the White House “located” over 250 pages of emails?

Maybe there’s a reasonable explanation. Just as importantly, maybe the emails themselves aren’t damaging or even relevant to the investigation at all. But one need not be a skeptic to at least wonder where these emails disappeared to and how, exactly, they were recently discovered.

And, for that matter, did this story have to break late on a Friday afternoon?

What’s more, Fitzgerald’s letter said that “not all email of the Office of Vice President and the Executive Office of President for certain time periods in 2003 was preserved through the normal archiving process on the White House computer system.”

Someone in a comment at FDL noted the suspicious timing of the “discovery” following Cheney’s little hunting mishap. The fact that only the Emails from the VP’s office and not those from the prez’s office where “found” adds to my “suspicion.

  • Remember the outrage on the right about the “lost” Rose Firm billing records? Wonder if we’ll hear the same thing from them now about Cheney’s “lost” emails. hahaha – yeah right – I crack me up sometimes…

  • Stories damaging to the administration always break late on a Friday afternoon. This one looks like a doozy.

  • Maybe they just needed time to doctor them, so they “misplaced” them until they had time to review them and fix up the things they didn’t like.

  • This administration is so computer-illiterature and technology-deficient I wouldn’t be surprised these were part of a larger stash they thought they had erased. The single, and signal, message regarding this bunch is: “Never trust the Bush Crime Family in anything (except their incompetence)”.

  • From the raw story…….sounds like its time to pass the popcorn.

“The emails are said to be explosive, and may prove that Cheney played an active role in the effort to discredit Plame Wilson’s husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, a vocal critic of the Bush administration’s prewar Iraq intelligence, sources close to the investigation said. “

  • Who says it’s the “missing emails” … I think it’s more likely they’re doing a blitz to “baffle”. Remember, Gonzoles gave them 2 days to destroy the evidence before the “order” to preserve.
Now, someone has told Fitz about certain emails. Maybe there are even copies from one or more of the recipients. Easy to check that those hadn’t been turned over. Now with 250 more pages, we’ve got job security for a bunch of analysts but it sure doesn’t mean that they’ve gotten the “meat”.

  • I expect that there will be discovered a precisely eighteen and one half minute gap in the E-Mails due to the ectoplasmic presence of the shade of Rosemary Woods. How the Party Of Nits And Gnats will pounce on this latest scandal, and expect an early Fitzmas this year! The once great Party of Jefferson and Jackson, those paternalistic [and literal] masters of men, is bereft of ideas relevant to the 21st Century. Still, they root like hogs in a mastless forest, and even the blind ones turn up no acorns.

The leaders of the Democrat Party have lost any ability to frame an issue or form a coherent argument. America needs a minority political party capable of adult political processes. The Democrat Party fails that test, but Nature abhors a vacuum. I wonder what will replace the Democrat Party. Democrat Socialist appears to be a non-starter. Possibly the “Party Of Responsible Protection And Isolation From The WORLD” will sweep up the detrius of the decomposing Democrat Party and attempt, like Siegfried at the forge, to form a sustainable opposition. David Broder will help with the punctuation.

  • waumpuscat, I have some bad news for you. Some child has been using your name and/or computer to post moronic comments. I’m sure this is embarrassing for you, since the stupid comments appear to be coming from you. I know I’d find this frustrating.

You should probably take steps to protect your name and computer so this ends. Otherwise, readers may start to believe that you’re the one leaving these dumb comments, which would reflect badly on you personally.

  • WARM CAT PISS or womped putz cat, I would say any people still supporting the Shrub are either people profitting by his crimes or they are too stupid to go to the bathroom without instructions. Which are you? Your misleader’s administration will be in it’s death throes soon. Trolls on other sites have even turned around on Shrub’s inconsistency on security and threatening to veto any legislation in regards to the ports. This could be described as having an open mind. Obviously, you aren’t capable of learning and are oblivious of facts. VP Dead Eye Dick will probably be indicted soon unless Gonzales commits some more crimes representing his criminal client Shrub, not the American people or the Constitution. The US threatened to cut aid to the Palestinians until Iran offered to give aid to the Palestinians. Herr Shrub can’t seem to make up his mind about anything. I believe FDR said “carry a big stick” but President Dumbass feels a need to use the big stick first in every situation no matter how inappropriate. Here are some suggestions for the future. Anyone that testifies before congress is put under oath including the president. This will add a little truth, for a change, to the State of the Union Address. No more oil whore presidents. Look at the trouble with the three obvious ones and the trouble they fomented. LBJ, Bush the elder and Bush the dumber. How about a simple demonstration of solidarity. Let’s see how many people care about our democracy. Let’s specify a weekend or day that people that want our democracy back have their headlights on to show how many do care?

  • Brian, and especially, tko, are classic examples that prove the observation; liberals have absolutely no class or manners. I would expect the others here to remind them (again esp tko) that some may surf to this site seeking information or arguments before making up their minds re issues of the day. Remember you are judged by the company you keep and the decorum (or in this case lack of) of said company.

Now lets see if you can think:

The Constitution created three co-equal branches of government, however one was created “more equal” than the others. Which branch and why

  • Just pointing out a lack of manners. waumpuscat can defend himself without my help.

rege, I can not prove a negative but I am not chuck. I am impressed you found what you did. I tried “googleing “bogie” and got to many hits to sift through. A lot of impostors out there. (that was humor BTW)

  • One shouldn’t need manners or class when confronted with a pile of horse shit and your misleader’s administration is the biggest spreader ($1.6 billion worth) in history. But then again I didn’t go to Yale and WE CAN ALL SEE the results of a Yale education.

  • Unfortunately, it’s not clear from the AP article whether these 250 pages of emails from the OVP are the same ones that Fitzgerald claimed had not been properly archived. If so, then this is big story. But it may be that these emails are just documents that Libby’s defense team requested (because they show how busy he was or whatever) and Fitzgerald’s office is merely passing them along from OVP to Libby’s team. If that’s the case, then this is not a big deal at all. It’s tough to tell at this point, but based on the lack of mainstream media coverage so far, I suspect the latter.

  • Bogie, I almost forgot. Are your instructions over the toilet or on the wall facing the toilet for your wife’s benefit?
Let me know after we hear more details about these emails that Gonzales pulled out of his Bush.

  • tko

    Thanks for proving my point.

    >>WARM CAT PISS or womped putz cat>horse shit and your misleader’s administration

  • Post did not take properly for some reason so…..

tko proves my point re lack of class and manners

Are all here proud of your association with a person of such clever discourse?

Is this a site you want friends and co-workers visiting for information and opinion knowing, they will read such as above?

Again you are all judged by the company you keep. I know you are very proud.

  • I aim to please. So does Bush. It cost Abramoff over a million to set up meetings for his “clients” with Shrub. Cheney is the biggest de-classifier of information that his department did not originally classify. When I say something, I say it because I believe it. Nobody bought and paid me to say something that isn’t true. Bogie, if you have some facts that disprove Bush’s failures, I would be quite willing to look at them. Like I said before, if Clinton had done half of what Shrub has, the Thuglicans would have tarred and feathered him. It looks like the rate of scandals Shrub’s administration is involved in finally exceeded the spin machine’s capacity to suppress or blunt the facts. March on, Fitzgerald. I do have an apology to make. People in the military or that may have lost a loved one in Bush’s War would understandably still support Bush. I do apologize to anyone in that position that read my earlier remarks.

  • “Brian” and “tko”, those Liberal Operatives in Intellectual Bankruptcy, have just demonstrated their refusal to consider ideas and their disturbing absence of decorum when confronted with them. Manners are usually acquired during toilet training. I find it troubling that this hallmark of bourgeois child rearing is missing, which may be the cause of the infantile vituperation that is their invariable theme when deprived of instant gratification. Whether they are fixated at the oral or anal level, I leave to their therapists, should they seek the psychological integration that they need so desperately. I would like to think that something could be saved from the wreck.

  • Waumpuscat, let’s hear some of your ideas that we should consider instead of copying from your thesauras again.

  • I think it is worth reminding bogie and waumpuscat what Analyitical Liberal wrote on 2/13/06shortly after their arival here.

One last thing: Your handle “Bogie” implies snipers with sneak attacks by the enemy. Why is it that we are no longer united as Americans, but instead you guys always seek to divide? It’s an “us vesus them” mentality, and winning is everything — even if it means that the country and our liberties are destroyed.

If you want to lurk here, then you had better bring some intellectual honesty and relevance, too. Otherwise, you’re just more of the RightWingNoiseMachine, and will be royally flamed. This is a reality-based community, and we are protective of our ability to debate the ISSUES, and sometimes throw in a bit of partisanship and snark, too. You should be honest about all of the flaws and warts of BushCo and their cronyism, incompetence, and mendacity, and we will do the same about the rest of the problems in America and the world. Trust me, you will see LOTS of criticism of the Dems. On the other hand, if you choose to spout the “Bush is God/King” and the “Dems are evil incarnate” and the “media is liberal” lines, then you can just pack it up.

You’ve been advised, and we hope you respond accordingly…

And bogie, I stand by my analysis.

  • bogie:

BTW, so what’s your response to that Abu Ghraib video? Are you still willing to put forth the argument that what happened was nothing more serious than putting underwear on the prisoner’s heads? Who are the savages, the guys with the underwear on their heads, or the ones that tortured them to death, or maybe the ones that gave the orders to do the torturing in the 1st place?

I am working under the assumption that since you are seeking intellectual enlightenment that you did watch it. You did watch it, didn’t you?

  • Well since we are now into high minded discussion I asked a question in post # 11

The Constitution created three co-equal branches of government, however one was created “more equal” than the others. Which branch and why

    What no takers

    rege hint

    http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com

  • I find it sort of ironic that someone who insists on coming to this site to denigrate the “democrat party” feels entitled to lecture on “manners” and “decorum”. Obviously they are incapable of delivering the same respect that they demand of others.

  • WTF do motorcycles have to do with the Constitution? If you’re looking to drive traffic to your website, you would have better luck with a link farm.

  • OK, folks, let’s discuss some issues!

1] What do the Democrat leadership plan to do about a Nuclear (or Nucular) IRAN?

2] Now that North Korea has used the aid provided (according to the protocols instituted by Secretary Albright) to fabricate a Nuclear Weapon, what should be the United States Policy governing Power Projection in East Asia?

3] The U.S. Fiscal Deficit continues to increase year by year. What programs should be eliminated to bring the budget back into balance?

4] Should the foreign Entities’ purchases of United States Government Debt cease, out of spite, financial prudence, or internal political upheaval, what policies should be instituted to deal with the resulting hyper-inflation as the Feederal Reserve Bank monetizes the National Debt?

5] The restrictions on free speech exemplified by Campus Speech Codes and the Laws governing political donations of money are controversial at present. What policies should be followed to restore our liberties as of old?

  • Ah, ANDY, I seek only to uplift and improve the characters of the products of the Public School System. My benevolence amazes even me, and I’ve seen just about everything.

I insist: You can do better!

  • Bogie, if you have some facts to dispute anything I said earlier, I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO HEAR THEM. I believe I can find the news stories to back up anything I said. As far as calling Shrub a misleader, do you believe we were given accurate information prior to the invasion of Iraq or were we mislead? I have every Frontline and Nova episode from the last 15 years and the Frontline episode Saudi Time Bomb from 1 November 2001 has James Baker (whose name recently came up again in regards to the Cheney shooting “accident” with no alcohol or maybe just a little alcohol until proven otherwise) saying “I’ve worked for 4 administrations and under 3 presidents and in every one of those our policy was that we would go to war to protect the energy reserves of the Persian Gulf. That is a major and very significant national security interest we have.” Baker’s tone during this statement was very emphatic. This was also the man that represented our so called president in front of the supreme court during the 2000 election debacle. Since then there have been many statements from former CIA agents and many others, Richard Clarke on down, saying the facts weren’t there to support the claims made by this administration before Bush’s War and they were saying so at the time. The Operation Iraqi Liberation (OIL) was the planned title before Operation Iraqi Freedom. It would have been more accurate. I also have another Frontline episode in which Prince Bandar says that out of approximately 360 Billion oil dollars they spent on construction in Saudi Arabia, about 130 billion was lost through corruption. When asked if this was acceptable, Bandar reminded the reporter that we have corruption in the US too. With that kind of money getting misplaced and all the weapons our defense contractors sold to the Saudis, the Shrublicans just looked at the middle east as a big cash cow. Now they killed the cow.

  • Andy;
Yes I am entitled, I make disparaging remarks directed at the Democratic Party. When I call someone here out, I do not first call them names or question their ancestry re the first part of this thread. Debate with class and you have a better chance of making a point (before I get too high minded I will admit to a bit of baiting).

re waumpuscat # 5 above, eliminate all campaign finance laws except demand full and immediate disclousure to http://www.??? we have the technology.

    marcus alrealius alrightus

the web link was directed at rege I see you did not get the message I was trying to send. Also I surmise you do not ride or you would have thanked me for the link.

  • tko
First respect the office and your argument will get a better hearing.

I thought that Iraq had WMD, not from what my government was saying, but from accessment of Sadams behavior. I am a card carrying member of the VRWC but I try to make my decisions based on a large body of evidence.

  • Bogie, What is the VRWC? I assume the “R” is for Republican, but I don’t know what the rest stands for. I don’t want to base everything on Frontline episodes, but there was one titled Rumsfeld’s War, in which they pointed out things were diverted from the war in Afghanistan in preparation for the war in Iraq before the “official decision” to go to war in Iraq was made. It also has Rumsfeld pointing out that he works at a standing desk, therefore it shouldn’t be a problem for others to stand or be held in awkward positions for a length of time. They planned Bush’s war in Iraq long before the invasion and used our fear after 9/11. By the time you watch the entire show, you know Rumsfeld is responsible for Abu Graib and the lack of armored vehicles.

  • They prepared for war in Iraq with money allocated to the War in Afghanistan, is my point. Obviously, they didn’t prepare very well which is back on Field Marshall Rumsfeld AGAIN.

  • The war was executed very well, the peace is the hard part. The USA now has to win the peace. Again you are slipping “Field Marshall” is a NAZI rank. War is hell, all anyone can do is keep the end in mind.

  • What have learned tonight? Even though “bogie” and “waumpauscat” say they are here to discuss issues, neither really has much to say. NOT DEEP THINKERS, like Shrub their king. Bogie is a card carrying butthead and waumpuscat is just a bowl of warm cat piss. Now I can revert to being an uncivil fuck that hates all Republicans and anyone still promoting Shrub. Let’s hope Fitzgerald’s investigations finally lead to some trials and isn’t undermined by Gonzales or millions in criminal defense funds.

  • Besides, Blowgie, “Nazi” terms apply to this administration. They have wholeheartedly embraced Goebbels propaganda policies.

  • I apologized for an earlier statement because someone who lost a loved one in the war would still understandably support Bush. It would be hard to face that your son, daughter or husband died based on lies and the criminal actions of our so called president. They would want to believe that their loved one died for a good cause. With that exception, I stand by my original statement that anyone still supporting Shrub is either profitting by Shrub’s criminal actions or is to stupid to go to the bathroom without instructions. Maybe we can broker the Iranians protecting our nuclear power plants?

  • tko:

If you haven’t ever had a chance to check out David Neiwert’s “The Rise of Psuedo Fascism”, I would highly recommend it. Neiwert makes an excellent case that we are on a slippery slope headed towards some sort of fascist state, and being propelled by the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, and the their minions.

  • “I am a card carrying member of the VRWC -bogie”

    Verbal
    Retoric
    Wanting
    Conflict

I saw this at some democratic political rallies …a few sign waving republican rascals making lots of mean spirited noise intended only to disrupt and divide. These guys say they are for free speech but they don’t intend to exchange ideas with an open mind, they just want to spoil the party.

  • I’m thinking of just ignoring bogie/wampus, because they have already wasted so much of my time reading their idiotic ideological verbal diarrhea. Of course, their rebuttals to every criticism you have contain even more nonsense, and Im sure they’ll have one for this too but I could care less anymore. They must both be unemployable if they have this much time to spout this gibberish on this site. One can only imagine how much of people’s time they waste on other sites as well. Go ahead and keep posting here of course. I wouldnt dare stop you. In your case, the reason they call it free speech is because no one is buying it.

  • I refer the Liberal Posters on this thread to my POST #30 above. The Republican Party currently has governmental responsibility for the security and prosperity of these United States. The Party’s policies stand revealed in their actual execution. Democrat denunciation of those policies is a worthless cop-out. WHAT POLICIES WILL THE LIBERALS INSTITUTE INSTEAD? The mention of Item #5 by “bogie” is welcomed. But from the Liberal Element we receive only noise, and ill-favored noise, at that. Great Super-Powers are not governed by noise for long, because they cease being Super-Powers. Great Political Parties that substitute noise for policy and leadership do not endure. As the Whigs discovered. How will a Democrat Administration handle United States Power Projection in East Asia in light of North Korean Nuclear Weapons? What will Senator Clinton decide? I believe that there are no good choices. Will some Democrat Thinker discover a good option for America? Calling names is unworthy of an American Citizen, and I’m far better at it than you are. Think high policy and the operational methods and constraints affecting its execution.

  • I dunno, 3 times I have asked bogus a direct question, and 3 times he avoided answering me. Typical. I guess in his world it’s okay to torture people to death, as long as they’re brown.

Strange, I don’t recall Republicans always being so delusional about the world. Nowdays it’s almost a given that the only thing they know how to do is reflexively spout Rush Limbaugh talking points. Sad, really, how in 5 short years, millions of our fellow citizens have lost the ability to think coherently.

  • Calling names is unworthy of an American Citizen, and I’m far better at it than you are.-waumpuscat/claude

That pretty well sums it up.

  • I await substantive High Policy Proposals from any Liberal posting on this thread. What are the operational considerations connected to these, as yet, unformulated Liberal proposals? I suggested a set of five challenges facing these United States and, consequently, all its Sovereign Citizens. Liberal thought, without expressed content, equals no thought at all. The attitudes and assertions of American Liberals, becalmed in 1974, cannot govern today’s America situated in today’s World. Let’s see a positive response to the Policy Questions I posed in Post #30 above.

Mere drift and free-floating hope is inadequate in this World.

  • I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: ‘O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.’ And God granted it.”
    – Voltaire

  • “Pseudo Fascism” WTF? Pseudo implies that it is false fascism. How can that mean anything?

Fascism aside, let’s be clear: today’s neo-conservative are not conservatives. From an ill-advised war to creating a larger Washington bureaucracy to uncontrolled deficit spending that will enslave our children to foreign debt-holders, Bush-Cheney-Limbaugh-Hannity et al are psuedo-conservatives.

  • G2000-
I like your approach of referring to bogie/waumpuscat indirectly or not at all. They are simply trying to PROVOKE 1. to incite to anger or resentment and DISTRACT 1.to sidetrack 2. to upset and anger.

Dirty tricks operatives sometimes pay for such services.
It is a compliment to the Carpetbagger that we are so distressing to those who would expend such energy to silence us.

  • 1] What do the Democrat leadership plan to do about a
    Nuclear (or Nucular) IRAN

Why does the Democrat leadership have to come up with a plan? They control neither the House nor the Senate, nor do they have the Presidency. Furthermore, traditionally it’s the administration (the President, the Secretary of State, and the State Department) that deals with foreign policy involving other nations. It is not the purview of the Senate nor the House to devise foreign policy, although they certainly can advise the president, ratify his treaties, and provide funding for his initiatives. This President will remain in his position for the next three years, so for a Democratic congressman to spend their time formulating a Plan for Iran’s nuclear threat is a waste of their time and energy.

However, if you’re curious about what those who might possibly run as presidential candidates in 2008 think about Iran, it’s not that difficult to find their positions:
    Wes
    Clark

    Russ Feingold 1 and
    Russ Feingold 2

    Hillary Clinton

I’d provide more links, but you should be able to do your own internet research – that is, if you’re truly curious, and not just posting straw questions. A genuinely curious person would want to check this out for themselves, and not rely on a liberal blog to hand them any potentially biased answers.

2] Now that North Korea has used the aid provided (according to the protocols instituted by Secretary Albright) to fabricate a Nuclear Weapon, what should be the United States Policy governing Power Projection in East Asia?

Again, why on earth you expect anyone from the House or the Senate to resolve this is inexplicable. However, if you’re
curious about what the potential Democratic presidential candidates in 2008 might think about this issue, by all means, look it up for yourself. Yahoo and Google are free for anyone to use. I’d warn you, however, that 2008 a couple of years away, and a lot can change between now and then. A truly concerned citizen at this point in time should probably be focused on what THIS administration has in mind, and whether that is likely to be effective.

Finally, I’d challenge your assumption that the previous administration was responsible for North Korea’s decision to fabricate Nuclear Weapons. (Where they found the money to do this is not really germaine since a nation determined to build such weapons will find the funding from somewhere, regardless of legalities.) North Korea’s decision to do this clearly happened during THIS administration’s watch, and was more likely due to this administration’s belligerence, and inattentiveness. In any case, THIS administration had plenty of time to react to the very clear signal that North Korea gave about the direction they were going in. It wasn’t as if North Korea worked on Nuclear Weapons in stealth and surprised the world with it.

3] The U.S. Fiscal Deficit continues to increase year by year. What programs should be eliminated to bring the budget back into balance?

This has got to be the most brain dead question on your list. There are very obvious answers to this, including NOT fighting an expensive land war in the middle east, reformulating the new Medicare drug benefits so that it isn’t a blank check to the Pharmaceutical Industry and a direct drain on Federal funds, curbing the recent pork laden transportation bill which, among other things, had the infamous $250MM “bridge to nowhere” in Alaska, or stopping the very generous tax credits that were extended to the oil industry in this administration’s Energy Bill. Furthermore, it’s possible to improve the budget shortfall by simply NOT extending the tax cuts that were enacted at the beginning of this administration’s reign. Finally, this administration should be working on ways to increase the earning power of EVERY American, which is ultimately the best way to improve the Federal government’s income. For you to have never heard of these suggestions means that you must’ve had your head buried in the sand for these past six years, and ignored any statement ever made by the House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, or the Senate Minority Leader, Harry Reid.

It is difficult to believe that someone who’s posted these questions and purports to be unable to find the answers to them is geniunely interested in the answers. Furthermore, looking at the dishonesty at the way these questions have been framed, it’s difficult to believe that they prove any interest on your part in engaging in a substantive debate. It is clear that you’re not interested in an open-minded pondering for your ownself about what are all the sides of the issues, and who really has the responsibility for resolving them.

Nobody here is interested in doing your research for you, nor is anybody interested in engaging in any “debate” with you. It’s hard to escape the conclusion that you’re really only here to bait the liberals, and we refuse to bite. Pardon us if we’re not so dumb as you think we are.

  • slip kid no more — I’m only passing on the author’s title. I would really recommend the essay.

  • Lots of “words, words, words” encapsulating a denial of the potential for leadership and a policy destitution discovered among the Liberals charged with thought. The Liberal Plan in 1972 was proclaimed through-out the Land: Turn South Viet Nam over to the Communist North. It was done, and the usual result was ignored by the American Enablers of the Red Terror. After successfully loading the sins of Kennedy-Johnson onto the Wretched Nixon Scape-Goat, the Liberal Banner was ascendant. Then came President Carter, who promised (and delivered) a “Government as good as the people.” By 1980 the Banner was frayed, while America reeled from “malaise” at home to a national disaster in the Middle East, where the Iranian Mullahs flouted diplomatic norms (I state it delicately.), thereby destroying American Prestige in that strategic area. Prestige is the raw material of High Strategy and Diplomacy. President Reagan retrieved part of the damage. President George H.W. Bush seemed well on the way to regaining a premier status for America, when he listened to the Liberal Left of America and the United Nations, and then allowed Saddam Hussein to remain in his Palaces. It was cheaper, and the Arabs would like us better if we allowed them their customary political processes. So President George W. Bush has had to revisit Iraq. The Middle East is going to call the American Armed Forces back, if the Army leaves before the Region is pacified and governed by ploitical systems enjoying legitimacy among the people there, who rise each morning and go to work. The Region controls miritime choke points and the price of petroleum, and these strategic elements will require that American influence be paramount, among the outside Powers, within these Moslem States. I have seen no Liberal discussion of these matters, or an alternate view of the options confronting these United States.

  • Don’t understand a whole lot about U.S. history and foreign policy do you?

  • marcus- thanks for the link to the pseudo-fascist essay.

The telling point for me is that all the ideology and religion that the right wing repubs (including our dear trolls) espouse is primarily employed as propaganda to arouse political will… they are really only interested in finding words that work as means to power . Terry Shivo, gay marriage, 9-11, prayer in schools are all just stepping stones to manipulate the faithful towards a hidden agenda to subvert democracy. The images of American fascism are the cross and the flag and the elephant.

  • Hollering “FASCIST” is the last refuge of the Political Scoundrel, especially by operatives without any understanding of Fascism. This Liberal tendency merely encourages vicious fools, such as the louts brandishing their swasticas yesterday in Orlando, ready to rumble with their mirror-image bien pensants, who flock to demonstrate their corporate virtue in gangs they believe will well photographed. Now, the political term, “Social Fascist”, would show an awareness of nuance in the degrees of compulsion possible and the marginal values of the resulting product in terms of Power and skimmed Wealth. Was Huey Long a Fascist? He considered himself a Monarchist, since he intended to make “EVERY MAN A KING.” Even so, I have heard, with these shell-like ears, a University Professor, who had tenure almost in his grasp, declare that Senator Long was a Fascist. It was so easy. He got points for it, too. On the other hand, a true “Man Of The Left” coined the term “Social Fascist” to describe Liberals engaging in fuzzy feel-good thinking that was intended to mislead the proletariat into the blind alleys of bloc voting based upon a fragmenting ideology. He was not French, but France between the Wars illustrated his thesis to perfection, as does the paramount tendency in the Democrat Party today. ALAS!

  • Just out of curiosity, waumpuscat, what the fuck are you talking about? It looks like you just cut and pasted a bunch of William F. Buckley/George Will op-eds, together into some mindless ramblings.
And I thought Mark Twain said PATRIOTISM was the last refuge of a political scoundrel. And what’s a “pensant”?

  • For God’s sake CB, please delete the troll posts. They are nothing more than Roveian “distract and defuse” tripe, but some poeple are too caught up in their positions to ignore them.

People, get a clue: what you’ve done here is exactly what they want you to do. Take a step back. Take a deep breath. Ignore the obvious trolls. I can’t believe that, at this late date, this still needs to be said. Sigh.

Oh, and trolls: the term is DemocratIC.

  • What is this “TROLL-Ranting” about? Cannot I assume that a citizen can include his thoughts, while civil and sincere, in these intense discussions of the future of these United States. The calls for eliminating thoughtful points of view, and the advocacy arising therefrom, are unworthy of American ideals. Even a Frenchman, mired in the blood-drenched controversies of the 18th Century, saw more clearly the perpetual need for a debate that allowed serious people to examine the prejudices and preconceptions promoting policies and the solemn execution of those policies. Our Masters fervently desire that slogans displace thought. Our Servants just as fervently demand that we citizens think through the tasks of governance that we citizens have assigned our public officials. Which group of politicians do free citizens require in public offices: Masters or Servants? That question is fundamental.

  • busta_cap,

Na, leave the trolls in here. These guys are funnier than hell. It’s like listening on the radio when Rush gets all jacked up on Oxycontin and starts blaming Clinton for tooth decay or some goofy-ass shit like that.

Here’s a fun game for the wingnuts: Present a problem facing our country, and they have to find a way to blame it on the Clinton administration. Issue number one: soil erosion.

  • For sooth, the shakespearian twists of waumpuscatian phrasing is diverting in the cryptic noisemaking of our dear troll and is a problem only if we take it seriously.
Tis the sound and fury of a prankster signifying nothing.
