Remember James L. Hart, the racist/lunatic running for the GOP nomination for Congress in Tennessee? He won yesterday’s “primary.”
An unabashed racist will represent the Republican Party in the November election for a congressional seat after a write-in candidate failed to derail his effort.
With 86 percent of the primary vote counted, write-in candidate Dennis Bertrand had just 1,554 votes compared to 7,671, or 83 percent, for James Hart, a believer in the discredited science of eugenics.
I give the local GOP some credit for trying to launch a last-minute effort to stop this guy, but one has to wonder if the Republican primary voters in this district are either shockingly uninformed (which is certainly possible) or so hate-filled that they actually want this madman representing their community on Congress.
I often lament voter sophistication, but in this case, I can only hope it’s the prior.
Oh, and don’t worry about this schmuck actually winning; incumbent Rep. John Tanner (D) isn’t in any danger of losing this race. He’s held the seat for 15 years, having beaten plenty of normal candidates by wide margins. He won’t have any trouble crushing Hart in November.
The more interersting question is whether the Dem will be endorsed by the local Republican Party.
