And the ABC docudrama hits just keep on coming.
James Bamford, an author and journalist who has written about security issues, appeared on MSNBC to discuss “The Path to 9/11.” Bamford revealed that an FBI agent who worked as a consultant to the film quit halfway through production of the mini-series because he believed the writers and producers were “making things up.”
“It’s made-up. This is fiction. This is not real. One of my friends actually was a consultant to this production — an FBI agent who worked on 9/11. He quit halfway through because he thought they were making things up.”
Given the circumstances, when an FBI official quits because the movie was veering off into fantasy, it probably should have been a clue to ABC that there was a problem.
Speaking of ABC, rumor has it that Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, is going to make a statement about the controversy fairly soon. I’ll update this post if there’s anything newsworthy. Care to make a guess as to what he might say? I’d be stunned if the network even considered pulling the program after investing tens of millions in it, but a guy can dream….
Update: ABC, as expected, released a statement this afternoon. It’s a bad joke.
