Harry Reid slams Limbaugh as ‘unpatriotic’

Following up on last week’s reporting, Rush Limbaugh’s decision to blast troops who disagree with him about Iraq as “phony soldiers” continues to reverberate. At last count, two major Republican presidential candidates (McCain and Romney) have criticized the far-right blowhard for his remarks; Rep. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) was scheduled to introduce a House resolution condemning Limbaugh for remark, and Limbaugh undermined his own defense by arguing that Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), a decorated combat veteran, is one of those who deserves the “phony” label.

Today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid went after the talk-show host as well. Greg Sargent has a detailed report.

“His unpatriotic comments cannot be ignored,” Reid said, according to prepared remarks sent to us before his speech, which is underway. “During his show last Wednesday, Rush Limbaugh was engaged in one of his typical rants. This rant was unremarkable and indistinguishable from his usual drivel, which has been steadily losing listeners for years — until he crossed that line by calling our men and women in uniform who oppose the war in Iraq `phony soldiers.’ This comment was so beyond the pale of decency that it cannot be left alone.”

In an interesting bit of political theater designed to put GOP Senators on the spot, Reid said he’s leaving on the Senate floor a letter his office wrote to the head of the parent company of Rush’s radio show denouncing Rush’s remarks. Reid challenged GOP Senators to sign the letter, saying that he’s leaving the letter on the Senate floor for the rest of today.

By leaving a letter on the floor for consideration, Reid is apparently shying away from a Senate resolution condemning Limbaugh, along the same lines as the resolution Republicans pushed last week condemning MoveOn.org. I think that’s the right move — not only does Reid want to avoid the tit-for-tat appearance, but frankly, it’s probably not helpful to have competing resolutions every week condemning intemperate political speech.

Resolution or no, Reid ripped Limbaugh this afternoon — and tried to shame his GOP colleagues into action.

The whole Reid transcript is online, but this stood out for me:

“Just as patriotism is the exclusive realm of neither party, taking a stand against those who spew hate and impugn the integrity of our troops is a job that belongs to all of us. I can’t help but wonder how my Republican colleagues would have reacted if the tables were turned – if a well-known Democratic radio personality had used the same insulting line of attack against troops who support the war.

“The letter I read will be available on the Senate floor for the entire day. My colleagues on both sides of the aisle will have every chance to add their names to it, and I encourage all of us to do so. If we take the Republican side at their word that last week’s vote on another controversial statement related to the war was truly about patriotism, not politics, then I have no doubt that they will stand with us against Limbaugh’s comments with equal fervor.

“I am confident we will see Republicans join with us in overwhelming numbers. Anything less would be a double standard that has no place in the United States Senate. I ask my colleagues, Democrat and Republican alike, to join together against this irresponsible, hateful, and unpatriotic attack by calling upon Rush Limbaugh to give our troops the apology they deserve.”

And as long as we’re on the subject, I thought I’d highlight this post from Right Wing Nut House’s Rick Moran (who once graciously described me as part of the “sane left“). Rick and I agree on practically nothing, but I was delighted to see that he recognized Limbaugh’s comments for what they were.

I watched the video and am more convinced than ever that Limbaugh knew he had goofed when he said “phony soldiers” (plural) and in the context of the moment the comment was made, Limbaugh was clearly referencing and agreeing with the caller’s sentiment that all soldiers who come forward and make known their opposition to the war are not “real soldiers” (caller’s words). […]

Limbaugh’s inclusion of Murtha in his little gang of “phony soldiers” is telling. If the talk show host was only talking about “phony soldiers” why include someone whose only sin appears to be opposition to the war in Iraq — an opposition that led the Congressman to jump the gun on the Pentagon and condemn Marines — some of them entirely innocent — for the Haditha incident?

Limbaugh’s explanation just doesn’t hold water. It is entirely plausible that the polarizing Mr. Limbaugh issued a blanket condemnation of military people who are opposed to the war rather than singling out individuals like Jesse Macbeth when he uttered the words “phony soldiers.”

And just for good measure, it’s also worth keeping in mind that when Limbaugh sought to defend himself, he selectively edited the audio recording of his show and the transcript.

If his comments were harmless, Limbaugh wouldn’t be trying to pull one over on his foolish fans.

I think that’s the right move — not only does Reid want to avoid the tit-for-tat appearance, but frankly, it’s probably not helpful to have competing resolutions every week condemning intemperate political speech.

I respectfully disagreee. The open letter will not garner as much news coverage as last week’s resolution did. Unilaterally disarming only gives the GOP more weapons in their arsenal. If we want to stop having competing resolutions, then lets not have any at all. Given that there is one from just last week, one from this week would reinstate some much needed balance. We can stop the weekly resolutions *after* that.

I want some GOP candidates on the record either supporting Rush or the troops. Either vote is a win for us in many 2008 senatorial campaigns.

  • “not only does Reid want to avoid the tit-for-tat appearance, but frankly, it’s probably not helpful to have competing resolutions every week condemning intemperate political speech.”

I must respectfully disagree. We do want to appear to go tit for tat. And we won’t pass competing resolutions every week if we pass our own, the same reason Roshambo never goes two rounds. The subtext is, “So you want to play that game, huh? Okay. Why don’t you denounce Limbaugh?” And then watch them backpeddle and squirm.

Reporters say Dems got “payback”, “revenge” for MoveOn. Good. I hope they do. What’s the worse that can happen — they portray us as playing hardball? Yep. And hear the nation give a collective sigh of relief that the check on the system they voted for has finally made an appearance. You want to play politics with people’s patriotism? Okay, two people can play that game. Defend Limbaugh. Defend FOX’s comment on Generals. Defend the Nazi analogies.

It’s a fantastic wedge issue. Now Republicans either have to find a tortured explanation for their hypocrisy, or give a McCain response that angers the base over their spinelessness.

By pulling our punches we are guaranteeing that we have these resolutions every week, only they won’t be “competing” but unilateral.

  • There are several reasons why this was a smart move.

One, the letter is being sent to what amounts to be Limbaugh’s employer – possibly likely to have more effect than a sense of the Senate resolution.

Two, it puts the parent company on the spot: does it agree with Rush or does it find his remarks offensive? Could it require Limbaugh to make some kind of public apology? And will it?

Three, it eliminates the charge that the Senate is just wasting time when there are so many pressing issues – you know it would take an entire day to get something to a vote; this way, not only can work continue, but it’s somewhat less public – and therefore less embarrassing to those who would really rather not be in the spotlight.

  • No, I think it’s smart as well. A Senator might balk at passing a resolution, but how can a Senator explain not be willing to sign a letter?

This puts the Republicans on the spot as either signing the letter, or having to continue discussing the Limbaugh quote (meaning many more days of coverage, and repeating the clip, and maybe even getting the fact that Limbaugh edited the clip as part of the story…)

  • Three, it eliminates the charge that the Senate is just wasting time when there are so many pressing issues – you know it would take an entire day to get something to a vote; -Anne

I appreciate this, but still see this as a waste of time, just like the condemnation of Move-On was, but to a lesser degree. It’s also, at it’s heart still a condemnation of free speech. As much as I think Limbaugh is a blithering idiot and drug-addled blow-hard, he’s got every right to it. Well, except for the drug-addled part.

I’d like to believe that the Government can multi-task, but I’ve seen no evidence to support it so condemning media personalities for absurd opinions won’t ever rank above investigating the Bush Administration or ending the war.

  • Here’s what the Republicans did today instead of condemning Limbaugh:

    HOUSE RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LIMBAUGH
    Mon Oct 01 2007 15:16:57 ET

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OCTOBER 1, 2007

Mr. KINGSTON submitted the following resolution

    RESOLUTION

Commending Rush Hudson Limbaugh III for his ongoing public support of American troops serving both here and abroad. Recognizing Mr. Limbaugh for his relentless efforts to build and maintain troop morale through worldwide radio broadcasts and personal visits to conflict regions.

    Whereas the need to show support for American troops serving and fighting both here and abroad during a time of global conflict has never been greater, with the need to communicate an uplifting message of encouragement to American soldiers eternally important, in addition to the morale-boosting value of personal visits to region by highly-regarded individuals;

    Whereas daily radio broadcasts reaching tens of millions of civilians and soldiers both in America and abroad by way of the Armed Forces Radio Network are conducted five days a week by Rush Hudson Limbaugh III;

    Whereas Mr. Limbaugh has consistently used his broadcast time to praise American troops and support them during their ongoing efforts to secure peace in a troubled world;

    Whereas Mr. Limbaugh made a week-long visit to meet with troops based in Afghanistan in 2004;

    Whereas Mr. Limbaugh has raised and donated millions of dollars to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation, which provides college scholarships to the children of Marines and veterans of other branches killed in action;

    Whereas Mr. Limbaugh’s website features an “Adopt a Soldier” program which provides them with free subscription access to his online program features;

Whereas during the original invasion in 2003, pilots of five different aircraft flew an American flag in Mr. Limbaugh’s honor during their bombing and refueling runs; and

Whereas Mr. Limbaugh’s commitment to American troops serving both here and abroad remains as strong as ever: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives—

    (1) recognizes Rush Hudson Limbaugh III for his support of the Marine Corp Law Enforcement Foundation and for providing free subscriptions for active-duty servicemembers;

    (2) recognizes Mr Limbaugh’s desire to see American troops achieve a successful outcome in Iraq, Afghanistan and wherever soldiers are stationed; and

    (3) commends Mr. Limbaugh’s tireless public support for American troops and their families through radio broadcasts, fundraising and other public support.

  • Oh. My. Gosh. You don’t say! A “ripping” by the all powerful Harry Reid. I am sure that really, really hurt Rush’s feelings!

Mark my words this will only provide more fodder and attention for the drug addicted blow hard known as Rush.

  • I agree with Edo and also with Glenn Greenwald when he said that this would be the right call( to avoid the tit for tat condemnations) if this were a healthy congress but it is not. The GOP repubs should never have condemned the move on ad, but since they did the Dems need to hold them accountable to their standard to prove it was not just a political ploy to get donations for their party. After this it would be clear as to where they stand on smearing our soldiers in uniform. Put their money where their mouth is so to speak.. Reid will be seen more as a weakling if he does not hold the republicans to the same standard they insisted the dems agree to.

This will be the last of it either way. But make the repubs stand for the standards they claim or stand for the hypocrites they show themselves to be.

It’s no coincidence that Rush made such comments at this time…IT WAS FATE…SERVED UP BY THE UNIVERSE TO SHOW THE REPUBLICAN HYPOCRISY. Reid needs to afford them the opportunity to show themselves for what they are.

  • HOUSE RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LIMBAUGH
    Mon Oct 01 2007 15:16:57 ET

I think we want the Republicans on TV passing that commendation of Limbaugh. Though I admire it. The very day Harry Reid goes half-ass on the tat, the GOP goes Pamela Anderson on the Tit.

We are so out of our league. What pussies we are.

  • Maybe they can introduce a version of the House Resolution Supporting Rimjaughb and Hillary can vote for that too.

  • The very day Harry Reid goes half-ass on the tat, the GOP goes Pamela Anderson on the Tit. -memekiller

    Brilliantly said.

  • This is a crock. Harry Reid of all people who says the war is lost, votes to defund the war and undermines our troops at every opportunity. The Democrats have taken a beating on this war in the past 6 months and the General Betrayus ad damaged them very badly. They are in a defeatist position and the American public knows it. That’s why their approval rating is 11%. This is a feeble attempt to recover from this. Mr. Limbaugh was referring to phony soldiers like Jesse Macbeth and other hacks the Democrats have supplied to undermine this war effort. Limbaugh makes no secret that there are many more phony soldiers like Jesse Macbeth who have been propped up by Moveon.org to bolster their defeatist position.

  • [Sniff! Sniff!] I smell ReThuglican feet being held to the fire.
    Mmmm, good!

There is a time for tit-for-tat but when we talk about the government condemning speech, I don’t to see the Democrats playing that particular game. There are a dozen ways to play hardball with this without devolving into: “Waaah, they started it!” crap. Reid picked a great one.

If any private citizens want to play along they too can send a note to Clear Channel: MarkPMays@clearchannel.com

  • I nominate Will Smith and Flush Rimjaughb to wave a white flag in downtown Baghdad as the U.S. Armed Forces complete a safe and deliberate withdrawal from Iraq.

You clicked on the wrong blog, Will Smith. No one is interested in your Reich Wing Authoritarian views here. Try flushrimjaughb.com or are you a phony dittohead?

  • In answer to Anne above…Ignored, ignored, ignored. Now Reid has to use more time and effort to push past being ignored. Short and sweet it demonstrates that dems are willing to give the party of Hypocrisy another pass.
Reid should stop writing letters…(bad boy, bad boy) as these are not getting the required vote to show whether the repubs were just pulling a political stunt or do they really believe what they claim. This will condemn a far right organization for which Rush is the speaker or it will show that the senate republicans are hypocrites. Reids “I wrote a letter and left it behind for you to sign” lets them off the hook when it should be a public condemnation of Rush or the republicans or both depending on the degree of republican hypocrisy.
Reid is always trying to establish rules in a knife fight and usually gets stabbed while reciting the first rule. But you have to applaud his intentions.

  • Don’t let the facts get in you way ***will smith*** best go back and have another beer and watch Bush pay the war profiteers while vetoing a legitimate pay raise for the troops while ignoring their medical care or their length of time being deployed while “forcing” them to fight and die in a civil war. You have to have a brain to post over here willie…we fact check. Like the fact that Rush edited out the entire portion of his conversation before mentioning MacBeth because he knew that idiots like you are so willing to believe anything rather than check if he is lying. And why would Rush do that? To cover and justify his comment. Better check your facts first before making a fool of yourself.

  • There is a time for tit-for-tat but when we talk about the government condemning speech, I don’t to see the Democrats playing that particular game. There are a dozen ways to play hardball with this without devolving into: “Waaah, they started it!” crap. Reid picked a great one.

Exactly how does one act mature and debonaire about getting kicked in the nuts? What’s the civilized response? How would an adult act in that situation?

As for speech, I think this fight is a blow for free speech. These resolutions are meaningless grandstanding. Their only real-world effect would be in neutralizing the stigma of poor patriotism tacked to any who might dare not to fall for Bush’s Congressional charade.

  • Reid’s letter is another demonstration of Democratic spinelessness. Make those traitors on the other side of the aisle demonstrate to the public exactly what their hypocrisy amounts to. Reid’s letter will never get coverage – a vote of condemnation will.

Goddamnit, you don’t take knives to gunfights!!!! When are these worthless morons we call our “leaders” and our “representatives” going to figure this out???

  • The biggest mistake Reid made was in condemning Limbaugh, rather than fighting for a resolution that applied to respecting people who serve, period, regardless of party affiliation. They should have held firm on that position when the GOP was pushing through the MoveOn nonsense. That’s a debate I’m willing to have: why can’t respect all veterans, rather than just those Bush hides behind?

We are in this position to make up for caving then.

  • Exactly how does one act mature and debonaire about getting kicked in the nuts? What’s the civilized response? How would an adult act in that situation? -memekiller

Ignore the nut kicking and keep investigating Bush. Wouldn’t hurt to cut some funding here and there to turn up the heat.

As for speech, I think this fight is a blow for free speech. These resolutions are meaningless grandstanding.

Couldn’t agree more. This is political theater at it’s finest, and frankly, the GOP are great actors. They’re always going to win, so let’s not play their game.
Instead, Reid should try governing. It hasn’t been done for a number of years, so it just might work.

  • To all those who agree with Mr. Carpetbagger that Ried is handling this correctly, I give you the following challenge:

    watch the MSM.

If Reid’s tactic is as clever as it should be it will get as much coverage in the MSM as the GOP’s letter of condemnation did. If it doesn’t then I think we can say it was a missed opportunity.

  • Exactly how does one act mature and debonaire about getting kicked in the nuts? What’s the civilized response? How would an adult act in that situation?

Whose nuts are we discussing? The Democrats nuts? MO.O’s nuts? They are two entirely different sets of testicles. MO.O seems to have come out of it all right, they turned that bullshit resolution into a fund-raising opportunity. The Democrats who voted for that piece of shit could have refused to vote if they were too chicken shit to vote against it, so don’t ask me to give a damn if they’re feeling a little sore right now.

Anytime an elected official rears up on its hind legs and votes to condemn people when they exercise their 1st Am. rights it is a bad thing. I thought this was fairly well established but apparently I missed the IOKIRDIF (It’s ok if Rethuglicans Do it First) memo.

  • only now the people of this nation is starting to realize what kind of people these so called republikkkan christians are. makes you wonder who the real dummies are.

  • the GOP talk radio monopoly has been an invisible 2×4 used for whacking anything progressive or liberal since reagan killed the Fairness Doctrine. invisible because it has been ignored by those it attacks continuously all over the country with an uncontested repetition of lies, distortions, exaggerations and propaganda that would make goebbles jealous.

it explains how an extremist minority has been able to do so much damage to our democracy and why we now have this bush catastrophe.

reid and udall and any effort to remedy this problem need support but until they get really serious dems will continue to play politics without a front line, with their strategists and candidates still wondering what hit them.

  • This ploy works if—and only if—Reid provides copies of the letter—as it exists at day’s end—to the media. It is, after all, Harry’s letter. He has every right to distribute it for public view.

Then, publicly ask each and every Reskunklican Senator who fails to sign the letter one question:

“What’s the difference between what MoveOn did in questioning the validity of a status report—from one senior command officer—and Rush-ya Limbaughsky’s direct denouncing the validity of active, frontline service—given by thousands of soldiers?”

And enter their excuses into the historical record for all to see—including every high school kid who contemplates enlistment.

As an aside, I’ve just heard on NPR the following statement:

“The Bush administration is redefining the Iraq mission as the central battle in the fight against Iran.”

Is it just me—or did NPR just issue a declaration of war?

  • This ploy works if—and only if—Reid provides copies of the letter—as it exists at day’s end—to the media.

And the media actually reports on it, with the same, or at least somewhat near the same, amount of coverage it provided to the moven.org condemnation. If they give it 10 words, buried on page A12, then the ploy fails.

  • I like what Gen. JC Christian, Patriot, was proposing on his blog (Jesus’ General). He would like our Glorious Leader to make September National Pilonidal Cyst Awareness Month! Rush could be the poster child! I’m sure that if he hadn’t had a boil on his ass, he too would be a veteran and could thus speak with authority!

I forgot to look…does my DD Form 214 have a place that classifies me as “real” or “phony”?

  • Exactly how does one act mature and debonaire about getting kicked in the nuts? What’s the civilized response? How would an adult act in that situation? -memekiller

Ignore the nut kicking and keep investigating Bush.

By keeping your ear to the ground?

  • Jesse MacBeth anyone?

If Rush can demonstrate that he was speaking only about people who pretended to be soldiers to lend credibility to their fabricated stories rather that soldiers who simply disagree/disagreed with the current policy, won’t Mr. Reid look silly?

  • Exactly how does one act mature and debonaire about getting kicked in the nuts? What’s the civilized response? How would an adult act in that situation? -memekiller

It’s difficult to kick someone in the nuts, when it’s pretty obvious that nuts are what’s lacking on the democratic side. As well as spines.
Nothing is going to get done until we turn out almost EVERY INCUMBENT in the democratic party. Let’s get some primary challengers that actually have some cajones. Maybe then, we can stop the repiglicans from pulling this kind of crap.

  • PWT,

If Rush can demonstrate that he was speaking only about people who pretended to be soldiers to lend credibility to their fabricated stories…

    And if I win the super-mega-ginourmous-lotto I’ll be a multi-millionare.

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

  • If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

If you had an argument, you would make it. Given the transcript, you can’t.

  • Edo, the ploy can work if the media is given the facts and then refuse to accurately report them. Then, the MSM can have their feet held to the fire, thus:

“Can a media outlet explain to the nation why it spends more time on “Brat” Spears’ losing custody of her kids than on Rush-ya Limbaughsky trashing thousands of US soldiers?”

“Can a media outlet defend why it’s unpatriotic to question a general’s report—that isn’t even the general’s report at all, but a thing written by a WH spin artist—but it’s acceptable to insult thousands of uniformed servants who are in harm’s way?”

  • Moveon.org publishes a “General Betrayus” ad, and Dems won’t condemn it or even call it “poor judgment,” yet they call for Rush’s blood for a comment that anyone who uses their OWN brain can tell is (1) a clear exercise of free speech and (2) clearly in reference to the numerous individuals who have pawned themselves off as soldier when they never actually served — where is the fairness? And yes, I read the whole transcript — not just the soundbites. This only puts the spotlight on Rush and makes everyone look bad. Too many other things to spend time on, in my view.

  • If we take the Republican side at their word that last week’s vote on another controversial statement related to the war was truly about patriotism, not politics, then I have no doubt that they will stand with us against Limbaugh’s comments with equal fervor.

“I am confident we will see Republicans join with us in overwhelming numbers. — Senator Reid

Harry Reid… Such a comedian… I remember trying to explain to my MIL that irony was lost on a 2-yr old because 2-yr olds have barely enough understanding of the world to comprehend things literally; everything else sails right over their little heads. My MIL “got it”, eventually, though she was rather put out at being deprived of her chance to score clever points off her grandson. I wonder what it would take to explain it to Reid, that one doesn’t engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

  • THE LOW IQ RUSH LISTENERS STRIKE AGAIN. MOST OF RUSH LIMBAUGH’S LISTENERS HAVE A LOW IQ! These people don’t even know the difference between Sunni and Shia.

RUSH HAS SOME SMART LISTENERS WHO are incapable of critical thinking or unfortunately indoctrinated in the corporatist point of view of the neocon wing of the Rebuplican party. There will always be WACKOS out there on the right AND the left, but the best thing is for all of us to read, attend lectures, and listen to different points of view and not just to the corporate media (Clear Channel).

Take the first step by following the $$ and see who REALLY benefits from this $750 Billion war. CLUE: It is not our troops, not our veterans. These are the people we should be thinking of but instead we’re fighting over who’s more patriotic, while the REAL BAD GUYS are laughing at all of us on the way to the bank. (And I bet many of them are Saudis)

ALSO, please meditate and think WHO will be making $$ WHEN we bomb Iran. HMMMM. I WONDER

  • It doesn’t help Limbaugh’s case that in the broadcast in question, when he later (after the “phony soldiers” smear) discusses the case of Jesse Macbeth, he indeed uses the singular (“fake soldier”) in describing him (in other words, he didn’t say something like “Speaking of phony soldiers, let’s talk about Jesse Macbeth.” This kind of sentence would have bolstered Limbaugh’s claim that in using those now-infamous two words earlier in the broadcast, he was only talking about literal frauds like Macbeth). As I said before in an earlier posting on this website devoted to the same topic, the inclusion of the portion of the transcript where Limbaugh talks about this Macbeth character makes him not look better, as the radio host’s defenders (like the Fox “News” Channel’s John Gibson) have been claiming, but worse.

  • I didn’t read all the comments here, I apologize in case I’m repeating an earlier commenter.

The letter can come in handy. Provided a copy is given to MoveOn, so they can run an ad in the paper showing the ‘missing’ Republicans. Because those ‘missing’ signatures by default agree with Rush’s perception of the phony soldiers.

Considering that Blackwater ‘soldiers’ get paid about 10 times more than the regular troops, maybe Rush is right. You must be a phony if you agree to work for 10 times less than your worth.

No disrespect to the troops, just pointing out what the Republicans in charge think of our troops: cheap replaceable IED fodder.

  • I usually think you make a lot of sense, but why should Democrats in Congress be allowed to pander to right-wing nitwits who believe criticism of the war is unpatriotic, while not at least equally condemning Limbaugh for falsely calling soldiers phony and unpatriotic because they may oppose the war? The Democrats who supported the condemnation of moveon were simply pandering to the exteme right. While it probably is true that Congress shouldn’t be in the business of condemning private speech, the rule proposed here is essentially that Democrats will be condemned, and only Democrats. The only way to get a reasonable rule adopted would be condemn, condemn and condemn the dishonest jerks such as Cheney who repeatedly suggest that Democrats are unpatriotic and supporting terrorism by disagreeing with his ideas of continuing the Iraq fiasco. That is the only course that would get the Republicans interested in stopping these condemnations.

  • The key to doing “tit for tat” right, is to do it the way the Repugs do it.

Don’t ever make a mild, “me too” reply. Go WAY OVER THE TOP with over-fucking-whelming force and completely shameless audacity!

  • Rush has never actually debated anyone so it’s no surprise that he’s hiding from Mr. McGough. Limbaugh’s a coward. He sits behind his microphone and belittles anyone who disagrees with him. His fans are sad, angry people who have little common sense and no real interest in learning about the real world.

Limbaugh’s a germ. He has been since the days when he played his little vacuum cleaner sound effect and encouraged callers to ask him to “abort” their calls on the air. As with many germs, his sickness is airborne. Radio waves have spread it far beyond the circle of influence he might have had in a saner world.

I can’t tell you how many people have contracted his disease but I’ve personally been threatened by three of his sycophants for comments I’ve made about him in the past. He encourages that sort of behavior. It’s a symptom of the disease to be angry when someone disagrees with Mr. Limbaugh’s “facts.”

Don’t expect Rush to apologize to or to meet with Mr. McGough. It’s not going to happen. I just hope that some of the infected will be cured by this event.

  • Harry Ried and company are an embarrassment to this country.Democrats can’t stand any kind of scrutiny so they have to deflect it to who ever is available. Mr. Reid claims he is for the troops but votes to defund the war. Stands in front of the senate and proclaims the Iraq war is lost. Why not just wear a turban to public speaking engagements to show solidarity with Islmo-Fascists.

When pointing the finger of anti Americanism at people one should consider that there are pointing back. Murtha who called our troops out of control and murderers did not have the facts and now it seems most of the allegations against our soldiers were false, where is his apology.?

John (the phony) Kerry portrayed our brave military men as storm troopers who broke into homes in the dead of night terrorizing innocent civilians knowing what he said was untrue and had no facts to back it up.Where is his apology?

Democrats have sold their soul to the competing special intrest groups and are selling out America. The Republicans have no back bone and just sit around with a crap eating smile on their face. It is time for all Americans to stand up to all this childish name calling. Allowing our elected officials to say and do anything they want. They have forgotten they work for ALL the people not just the gays or the tree hugger or whatever other minority group may come along.

  • So, according to you and Senator Ried, it’s OK for him to take things out of context and forget about the First Amendment.
This is a clear abuse of power and he should resign from the Senate.
