The AP mentioned last month that Don Rumsfeld has kept a noticably low profile lately, leading many to wonder if the controversial Defense Secretary with low approval ratings had been locked up in an undisclosed location until after the election.
That was true, of course, but I can’t help but notice that another even more controversial cabinet secretary seems to have gone missing — John Ashcroft.
He gave a few public speeches in July, but none was in a high-profile setting. This month, the handful of appearances has dwindled to zero. Ashcroft’s media briefings have been non-existent lately and he certainly hasn’t been doing any media interviews.
So, any guesses on why? Suppose it’s because he’s widely reviled by voters, there’s only three months until the election, and Bush is trailing in the polls?
