After a relatively quick break, I’m back. Many, many thanks to Michael J.W. Stickings and Tom Schaller for their terrific work and guest posts in my absence.

You can (and should) read Michael every day over at his fine blog, The Reaction. Tom still occasionally posts words of wisdom at The Gadflyer, but even more importantly, you’ll soon be able to pick up his excellent soon-to-be released book, Whistling Past Dixie: How Democrats Can Win Without the South, which will be published by Simon & Schuster in October.

And now, back to the news….

    I noticed the ad on the CBR for “Lapdogs” by Eric Boehlert. Given that Tom Schaller is coming out with a book, there seems to be a lot books coming from the left side of the political spectrum these days (too many to list here). Does the sheer number of these books and depth of material indicate a growing, robust liberal intellectualism? Are conservatives creating a paucity of thought as exemplified by the hate books of Coulter and O’ Reilly? Twenty years ago, wasn’t the conservative movement in its heyday of intellectualism and book publishing (I guess, Ed Stephan might know)?
