Housekeeping

About a week ago, my technical team and I tried to make a few cosmetic changes here at The Carpetbagger Report, just to spiffy things up a bit. Unfortunately, for some readers, the modifications caused difficulties, including ads bleeding over on top of the text.

This morning, I think, those problems have been corrected. You should now be able to see the site perfectly, no matter which browser you’re using, and no matter what your screen resolution is set to.

There are still a few other kinks we’re working out of the system (comments seem to close down sometimes for no reason, the archives still look funny), but today’s improvements should completely address whether people can see the site and the posts correctly. If you’re still having trouble, please let me know, either in the comments or through email.

My most sincere thanks go out to Al and Mrs. Carpetbagger for all the hard work. And now, back to the news….

Yay! The comments background looks great in IE now! Fantastic work!

  • Hey Rian,

Like most of my fellow Daily Kos users, my browser of choice is Mozilla’s Firefox. Join the switch. It’s free and it has better security. The only negative is time required to download it. Link here: http://www.mozilla.org/

  • CB–One thing I noticed was that the left nav bar doesn’t update “Recent Entries.” So if I am in an older article (as in an earlier post of the same day), I can’t see the latest posts on this list. Maybe it is my IE using cashe or soemthing, but it doesn’t seem to happen that way on other sites.

BTW, please never stop doing this blog. Really. It’s great.

  • Hey slip kid no more, thanks for the tip, but I’m already a big supporter of Firefox and use it at home myself and tell all my friends to use it. However, my job uses IE, so I’m stuck with it when I do most of my Carpetbagger surfing. 🙁

  • Eadie, I believe the delay in recent articles showing up on the sidebar is due to the server side cacheing required to reduce the load. They will turn up eventually (depending on the expiration time that is set) but it may not be instant.

  • I am forced to use IE on my work computer, too, so I feel your pain Rian!

Eadie – I believe Al is right. And not sure what to do about it yet — I still don’t get this cache plugin. I’ve decreased the time until the cache expires, so hopefully that will make things better. Let us know how it works for you now. And I’m glad you like the site!

Mark brought up a weird problem in another post: the comment box was jutting out to the right when you typed in it (at least in IE). I fixed it, but it makes the comment box smaller (at least in 1024×768). How does it look for those of you using 800×600?

    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Thanks for fixing the ads bleeding into the text – the site looks great on Opera now.
