Huckabee wants Ten Commandments in the White House

As the campaign unfolds, Mike Huckabee sounds less like a former governor, and more like a religious right activist with reporters following him around.

Ron Chusid directed my attention to Huckabee’s latest remarks, delivered to reporters on a campaign bus in Iowa, which delved into his church-state thoughts in more detail.

[W]hen he was pressed on whether he would continue certain practices he began in the Arkansas state house, such as a Christian Heritage Week or hanging the Ten Commandments in his office, Huckabee said, “[I] don’t know why I wouldn’t.” […]

As for the Ten Commandments in the Oval Office, “the Ten Commandments are in the Supreme Court,” Huckabee said, adding that he “wouldn’t hesitate” to hang them in the White House. “The Ten Commandments form the basis of most of our laws and therefore, you know if you look through them does anybody find anything there that would be all that objectionable? I don’t think most people would if they actually read them,” he said.

I used to hear similar comments from attendees at Christian Coalition conferences, most of whom didn’t know any better.

The problem here, though, is that the candidate who doesn’t know anything about foreign policy, national security, immigration policy, economic policy, or history also is confused about the Ten Commandments, which presumably should be his specialty.

First, the notion that the Ten Commandments “form the basis of most of our laws” is transparently ridiculous. I don’t know if Huckabee has looked at the Commandments lately, but just the opposite is true.

The Ten Commandments, for example, make several religious commands: no false gods, honor the Sabbath, no idolatry, no using the Lord’s name in vain. They also include plenty of tips for good living: honor your parents, don’t commit adultery, don’t covet a bunch of stuff, don’t covet your neighbor’s wife.

Are any of these reflected in our laws? Of course not. There are laws against stealing and killing, but it’s fair to say those laws originate more from common sense than the Book of Exodus.

As for Huckabee’s assertion that the Ten Commandments are “in the Supreme Court,” this, too, is just religious right claptrap, which reasonable, informed people usually avoid.

Here’s the story: there’s a frieze just below the ceiling in the court’s main chamber that depicts the evolution of the law over the past several centuries. As part of the decorative horizontal band, there’s a depiction of Moses cradling two tablets, which is obviously meant to represent the Ten Commandments.

Does this mean the Commandments are “in the Supreme Court”? Hardly. The text of the Decalogue isn’t even part of the frieze. Besides, Moses is hardly the only figure on the display.

Also included are Confucius, Mohammad, the Old Testament’s Solomon and Hammurabi, founder of the ancient Babylonian Empire. (Ironically, Hammurabi is depicted being given his famous law code by Shamash, the Babylonian sun god, meaning that the sole depiction of a deity at the high court is a Pagan god.)

The frieze also contains non-religious figures who shaped the law, such as Napoleon, Charlemagne and ancient Greek and Roman figures. The clear purpose of the frieze is to educate about how the law developed, not endorse religion or state that U.S. law is based on a specific religious code.

It’s another one of those examples in whch a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Huckabee probably heard some TV preacher mention the Ten Commandments in the Supreme Court and immediately accepted it as fact. He seems to do that quite a bit.

Huckabee obviously received the same memo from God that all the other religious right-wingers got. The memo says that if you tell lies for God, that is okay. God will forgive you.

  • It will be interesting to see how many votes he ends up getting during the entire Republican primary… That number will give us an idea about approximately how many religious nuts live in the America. Not that it would capture all of them, because I’m sure that quite a few religious nuts don’t vote at all.

  • I keep fantasizing about all these hypochristians being held to account during one of their debates. First they would all be given the chance to pander to the pious; “Yes, I read the Bible every day.” Then they would be given a test on what they claimed to have read.

Huckabee once said Jesus was too wise to go into politics. But how is the campaign of the oppo Pharisees in Jerusalem, laying traps with questions about divorce and taxes, different than our era?

What would Jesus do about taxes? Be specific.

Did he ever comment on capital punishment?

Was Jesus a true believer in the Calvinist hard work ethic?

Can you find in the words of Jesus any sympathy with your party’s obsession with wealth and those blessed with it?

Explain what is conveyed in the parable of the Prodigal Son. How about the worker drawing full wages while showing up in the 11th hour.

If there is any time left, they can each rhapsodize about how their policies at home and abroad dovetail with the preaching of Jesus.

  • Since claiming that the Ten Commandments is the basis for our law requires us to consider only those that are common sense, I say we do away with those religious commandments and replace them with other common sense aphorisms. e.g.:

    Commandment 1:
Thou shalt not eat of the yellow snow.

  • The things that Huck is saying sound ridiculous to us, but most of us won’t be voting in a Republican presidential primary. About 40% of Republican voters are motivated principally by Christian social values as they perceive them. If Huck gets most of their votes, and the rest of the votes are split among Giuliani, Romney and the others, then Huck wins the nomination easily.

Huck’s strategy isn’t as idiotic as it may appear. But he will be buried in the general election.

  • I think the only reason “the Huckavangelist” is riding the high political tide right now is that all the others have become fundamentally-damaged goods. Most of the Right will never accept a “Third Testamentalist” (a Mormon); they won’t bow to he hobnail-booted legions of Paul; they keep falling asleep whenever UnAware Fred shows up; They’ve witnessed a few too many derailments of the Fast Talk Express; and they cannot stomach any more of the GhopulChild Ghoulash. So it’s not that Huck is doing so well; rather, it’s just that everyone else is doing worse than he is right now

It’s like the Titanic/iceberg thing. The ugly chunk of scary ice won the first round, but once it drifted into warmer, sunny waters, it melted.

The Huckavangical will do the same thing, if he gets into the general election—he will MELT.

  • The Ten Commandments? Gee, it would be nice if the Bush regime would start by obeying a few of these commandments.

Thou shalt not kill. Hmm, guess the Bush war on the Iraqi people with over one million Iraqis dead – that doesn’t count?

Thou shalt not bear false witness. Bush and Cheney bear false witness practically every time they speak in public.

Thou shalt not steal. Hmm, Bush and Cheney and the Republicans stole the Presidential Elections of 2000 and 2004.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s property. Bush and Cheney seem to be coveting Iraq’s vast oil reserves.

I would like to see candidate Huckabee actually discuss these violations of the Ten Commandments by the Bush-Cheney regime…

  • I don’t understand the Jews at all.

Sure they got the 10 big laws from the man upstairs but I still don’t get it.

Did the Jews think it was OK to steal and to murder before G_d told them it was a no-no?

How many societies think it is OK to steal and murder?

  • I think only 4 of the Commandments are really laws. Maybe it should be changed to the 4 Commandments.

The 10 Commandments – God’s Revelation in the Old Testament
The 10 Commandments are found in the Bible’s Old Testament at Exodus, Chapter 20. They were given directly by God to the people of Israel at Mount Sinai after He had delivered them from slavery in Egypt:

“And God spoke all these words, saying: ‘I am the LORD your God…

ONE: ‘You shall have no other gods before Me.’

TWO: ‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.’

THREE: ‘You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.’

FOUR: ‘Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.’

FIVE: ‘Honor your father and your mother.’

    SIX: ‘You shall not murder.’

SEVEN: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’

    EIGHT: ‘You shall not steal.’

NINE: ‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.’

TEN: ‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.’

  • This is a much easier issue for Mitt. He can just figuratively put them on the wall, and then only he can “see” them there.

  • “Moses is hardly the only figure on the display [in the Supreme Court].

Also included are Confucius, Mohammad, the Old Testament’s Solomon and Hammurabi, founder of the ancient Babylonian Empire.”

Mohammad??? OMG! The terraist are coming! Quick, quick, take him off there and ship him to Gitmo before he blows up Moses!

  • Remember, anytime anyone suggests that we need to return to the Ten Commandments, it’s worth asking “which Ten commandments?” Even the Catholics and Protestants can’t agree, since Luther and especially Calvin wanted a whole separate commandment for the graven-image thing, which required de-commandmenting something else (or, rather, lumping the commands, which add up to quite a few more than ten, depending which of the inconsistent texts of them you use, differently).

Once the Jews, Catholics, Protestants and whoever agree how to number the commandments, we can start talking about which offices to hang them in!

  • People are so afraid to offend anything Christian that Hukabee can get away with anything as long as he keeps wrapping the cross around it. Anyone challenging him he will try to make appear anti-Christian. Nothing he would like better than to keep the discussion focused on freedom of religion and the ten commandments than the real issues he knows so little about.
Republicans have so little to choose from…especially when they know it is a lost cause as no republican will be elected president this time. I really wonder how a republican can justify being a republican based on the horrors of the last 12 yrs and with the current crop of GOP hopefuls being so lame. Dismissing all the GOP candidates…what is it that republicans want? Seems like dems are more representative of republican wants than their current GOP hopefuls because these guys are out of touch with the majority of Americans.

  • What did Jesus do to you people to make you so bitter towards him? Jesus only wants the best for you. You know he exists and that Jesus is the answer because why would you argue over a man that walked this earth some 2000 years ago. Any negative reply is the devil talking to you. Listen to your gut.

  • “The Ten Commandments form the basis of most of our laws” –

Arguably our nation’s most essential law is contained in the Bill of Rights.

To the contrary, there is nothing in the Ten Commandments that addresses the rights of man. The Ten Commandments enumerate man’s duties to G*d.

It is difficult to think of two bodies of law that have less in common.

  • “And God spoke all these words, saying: ‘I am the LORD your God…

ONE: ‘You shall have no other gods before Me. Though through me, seeking money and power is okay, as long as you say it’s through me that you do it.’

TWO: ‘You shall not make idols. The green paper and TV and movie celebrities don’t count. Nor does fashion.’

THREE: ‘You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain in movies and on television.’

FOUR: ‘Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Only Mexicans should work on a Sunday, which the day you should keep holy even though the Sabbath in on Saturday. But Mexicans can work on Saturday too. If they don’t like it, they can just go home where they belong anyway. Not that I am not all-loving.’

FIVE: ‘Honor your father and your mother in public.’

SIX: ‘You shall not murder, but the death penalty is a good thing.’

SEVEN: ‘You shall not commit adultery if journalists can report it.’

EIGHT: ‘You shall not steal. Though fraud and soft money are okay, as long as you pray for forgiveness from time to time.’

NINE: ‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor, but only in favor of your President. In doubt, just say you “can’t recall.” That usually works.’

TEN: ‘You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s too obviously. Build huge companies that have no-bid deals with the government to make it all nice and official instead.’

  • Maybe if Bush had been staring at “Thou Shalt Not Kill” in the Oval Office, he would have thought twice about jumping into an immoral war. I’ve never voted anything but Democrat, but making an issue out of this is stupid.

  • In the same way the Dover trial spelled doom for the Intelligent Design crowd trying to force their crap into biology classes in public schools, I think Huckabee is going to go down hard and kill the political power of the Religious Right.

They’re obviously frantic, right now, to have a candidate, but it’s revealing that all they could get was Huckabee. Huckabee will go down so hard late-night comics will make jokes about it for ten years.

(At least among THINKING voters, I expect the released rapist alone will doom him. Of course, the hard-core 25% who still think Bush is honest and honorable will never listen to anything other than what the Right Wing Radio shoves into their stupid brains.)

These parasites helped divide Americans against each other over the past decade or so, and they’re paying the price for that short-sighted, mean-spirited, anti-American move.

They will probably still get press, but will have little or no power. No candidate will take them seriously, and the temporary requirement for a Jesus Loyalty Oath by presidential candidates — seen at every GOP “debate” — will be over.

    And good riddance.

  • The only people more ridiculous than Huckabee are the people who will vote for him. Religion should be kept out of the government institutions and the governing acts PERIOD.

  • I have no problem with the Ten Commandments in the White House — the Ten Commandments is a good reminder that our liberty comes from law. The question really is one of morality. Where do we Americans derive our moral code upon which much of our law is based? I see nothing wrong with the values that the 10 Commandments espouse.

  • If a completely terrifying figure such as Huckabee enters the white house as president, I will personally do my utmost best to lobby for the EU to cancel treaties and cooperation with the US on the same level as we distance ourselves from Iran. And I know the vast majority of people in Europe agree with that stance.

If this lunatic gets close to any political office or governmental responsibility I can only hope someone in the US kills him, one way or another. It’s people like that destroying whats left of this once proud nation. It’s in shambles already after 7 years of that sociopath Bush. However hard to imagine, Huckabee would be worse.

People like that belong in a mental institution, heavily medicated.

  • As John Adams signed, he said, “Whether we live or die, sink or swim, succeed or fail, I stand behind this Declaration of Independence. And if GOD wills it, I am ready to die in order that this country might experience freedom.”

Patrick Henry once said, “It can not be emphasized too strongly or to often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians – not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Just a couple of quotes from our history. No matter how many times you say religion has no place in this country that doesn’t make it true, Anyone that knows the true history of this great nation knows that it was built upon GOD. Just because you chose to deny that at this time does not mean it is wrong. If supporting a candiate who believes in Jesus Christ and that actually has morals and values makes me a nut, I will gladly carry that label. I pray that somedays your eyes and hearts are opened before it is to late.

    GOD Bless America!!!!

  • I knew it was only a matter of time until a post that capitalized GOD twice. Ever occur to you, Fuckabee Ranger, that the personages you quote were DEISTS? ever occur to you that they intended religion NEVER to be shoved down the throats of the public as part of a fascist theocracy? Ever looked at how marvelously successful, happy, and free fascist theocracies are?
Oh, never mind. He, like most of this imbecile country, possesses no brain cells and no neurons to conduct thought.

  • Man, if people in the US vote in another bloody religious radical, they’ll be Fxxed even worse than they are now. Politics is public and applies to the public. Religion is personal and private has NO place in public instututions or as part of policy.

What is completely mind-boggling is how US politicians go on and on about religious radicals abroad but fail to see their own identical rhetoric. Just ’cause you change the deity doesn’t mean the philosophy is any less ridiculous.

  • Sorry, Knucklehead Ranger, that Patrick Henry quote is apocryphal. And just because an 18th century President says “god willing” doesn’t mean this nation is Christian. I say god bless you when people sneeze and I’m an atheist (I keep some figures of speech because they are still useful).

Oh, and I wouldnt worry about us godless liberals challenging Huckabee-I’d worry about the rest of the Republican party. The warhawks will want to do him in worse than the Democrats. See Krauthammer, Lowry et al.

  • “If supporting a candidate who believes in Jesus Christ and that actually has morals and values makes me a nut…”

No, Supporting a candidate who believes in jesus christ and has morals and values does not make you a nut, But supporting a candidate who beleives in jesus christ, and has morals and values(that you agree wtih*), but has no idea how to run your country… THAT makes you a nut.

*Osama Bin Laden has morals and values too – they just happen to be crazy morals and values

  • Excuse me, Huckabee Ranger, but if read you read your constitution, you’ll see that there may be one or two references to God, but absolutely nothing to Jesus. Yes, the men who wrote our constitution could an be called Christians, but they were more aptly described as Deists who looked for faith in the observable natural world. There is nothing wrong with saying they believed in God, but they fully understood that they needed to keep personal religious beliefs out of the Constitution. Nobody in George Washington’s household ever saw him pray, but they did often see him drinking and gaming on Sundays. If he ever had to refer to Jesus in his writing, he usually called him “Providence” or “Higher Causes.” Any devout references you ever see made about him are from his granddaughter, Nelly Lewis, who was a devout Christian who was scared for Washington’s soul. Thomas Jefferson referred to Jesus as “our particular superstition” and was a major advocate for doubting religion.

You did mention Patrick Henry, who by all accounts was a devout Christian; he, however, objected to the Constitution as it is written and apparently wanted to scrap the thing entirely. Also, the quote you used which has been attributed to him has never been located among his actual recorded writings and speeches, and most historians acknowledge now that it has accidentally been assigned to him, so you should probably stop using it. (you can Google “patrick henry religion” if you don’t believe me)

Yes, the men who founded this country believed in something higher, but they knew better than to force theses beliefs on other people. None of us probably has any beef with the fact that Huckabee is a Christian; all of our former presidents have been Christian to some degree. What we object to is a president who actively wants to run this country by his Christian superstition rather than by doing what’s best for all of its citizens. So people like you need to stop saying that we have to remember what principles this country was founded on, because ideas like yours will lead us exactly where our founding fathers didn’t want us to go. I know this sounds crazy, but try reading a historical book other than your Bible, and maybe you’ll learn some actual facts that won’t make you out of touch with history.

  • Jesus said: “Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and unto God that which is God’s..!”

That is Jesus pronouncing the separation of Church and State..!

These religious zealots only ever use religion to mislead the people and for their own personal interests..and this at the expense of what is God’s realm as Jesus knew..

Nothing in this regard has changed from the time of Jesus to today..

The failure to heed this warning by those Jesus spoke this too brought them to utter ruin and destruction, yet there are still and will always be these usurpers and pernicious pusillanimous wolves in sheep’s clothing as even the Bible tells us..warns us..

For me that simple statement by Jesus of Nazareth is enough and out weighs any of the crap these guys spout from their blaspheming mouths as anyone who chooses to ignore such a simple ad direct admonition by Jesus is in fact a blasphemer..and should be seen as such by us all..

Our Founding Fathers knew this and enshrined this in our Constitution as they had more respect for religion and religious belief then these cheap Billy Sundays we see today from Huckabee to Romney to Robertson and Dobson..et al..

  • Can we say “pandering”??? That’s exactly what it is. I’m a Christian and I’m not blinded by this man. He told Wolf Blitzer on film that he gets his advice from the president of the CFR, whose goal is globalization, or New World Order. That’s pretty un-Christian considering the bible tells us one world gov’t will set the stage for the anti-Christ.
Are Christians going to fall for it again? Do you think anyone here is going to force the hand of God?

  • The actual ten commandments are even more ridiculous than the tradition holds. Look them up. Moses broke the first set of plates in a fit of pique because his people had made a golden calf. He went back to god and got a new set of plates. Exodus 34:15 through 26. Murder and stealing are not mentioned, lots of talk about sacrificing, and the tenth commandment is “You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk”.

  • The 10 commandments form the basis of many of our laws. That doesn´t mean that every commandment is a law, but that many of our laws come from the 10 commandments. For example: There are laws against stealing, murder, drugs, etc… which the basis of all are found in the 10 commandments. I would challenge the author to find a single law (that Christians support) that isn’t based on one of the 10 commandments.

Mocking a presidential candidate for his beliefs regardless is outrageous. We don´t mock Barak Obama for being Muslim, maybe the democrats are the party of bigotry?

  • Dear Not An Idiot,

Obama’s name is spelled “Barack,” and his professed religious preference is spelled “Christian.”

Where do you find the basis for our drug laws in the Ten Commandments?

Or is “not an idiot” just a figure of speech?

  • To Not An Idiot:

Your statement “We don´t mock Barak Obama for being Muslim, maybe the democrats are the party of bigotry?” is direct evidence against your name tag. Obama is not a Muslim. Maybe you should drop the “Not” from your name…

  • If Huckabee plans to have The Ten Commandments in the White House.. if elected…

Could Huckabee tell us which Commandments he plans to break… if elected?

“Ask the retarded Fort Smith teenager, raped by her stepfather, who sought Medicaid funding for an abortion as federal law required. Huckabee stood in the hospital door, at least figuratively, to prevent state funding…

. Why not look to a conservative voice from the national media? At the American Spectator, once home to the anti-Clinton Arkansas Project, senior editor Quin Hillyer, a former Arkansas Democrat-Gazette editorial writer, wrote recently, “National media folks like David Brooks [of the New York Times], dealing in surface appearances only, rave about what a nice guy Huckabee is, and a moral exemplar to boot.

If they only did a little homework, they would discover a guy with a thin skin, a nasty vindictive streak, and a long history of imbroglios about questionable ethics.”

P.S. . On 12/13/07 The Governor’s Son was arrested while attempting to carry a loaded 40cal. Glock semi-automatic handgun on to a Commercial Flight! His reported initial comment to Homeland Security was “Those laws don’t apply to me..MY DADDY’s the Governor”!

  • This editor/writer is just looking to bash something.
Huckabee did not state that he would govern or rule in regards to the Ten Commandments.
He was asked specifically if he would “hang them” in the White House. And he replied , “Why not? They’re “in the Supreme Court”. Yes, in the Supreme Court, in the same context as they are “hanging” in the Supreme Court.
His follow up was simply trying to assuage the leftists and atheist fanatics by stating that many of them support the basis of our laws.
Interesting that this writer only really singled out the God’s part, the idolatry part, and the coveting part. The Ten Commandments also mention not stealing, not lying, not killing, etc… And yes…he mentioned most were common sense. Unfortunately…there are way too many in this country that don’t have common sense…such as this writer/reporter.

  • I am not concerned about The Ten Commandments hanging in the white house, I am more concerned about the lying and cheating by the rethuglians.

  • Sorry I spoke up in this place. It looked like a nice debate was taking place where candidates could be discussed but I see that I was wrong. Its just a bashing against what you disagree with or do not believe in. I apologize if I offended anyone by saying I support a Huckabee and by capatalizing GOD. I do not change my stance or beliefs but I didn’t mean to get everyone so upset. I myself have not felt strongly about a Presidential candidate for a long time until now. I even changed my party from Democrat to Republican this month so I can vote for Gov. Huckabee in the primary. My last parting comment is in response to one sent to me. Beth said, “Excuse me, Huckabee Ranger, but if read you read your constitution, you’ll see that there may be one or two references to God, but absolutely nothing to Jesus”. Jesus is GOD and GOD is Jesus. They are one in the same so if GOD was mentioned twice, Jesus was mentioned twice.

I will drop out of the conversation and let you go at it. The tone quickly turned to something very rude and disrespectful. Have fun and best of luck with your candidates in 2008. Whatever happens and whoever is our next President I will continue to pray that GOD blesses the United States and our President.

  • Hey there, Not An Idiot. First of all, Barack Obama is not Muslim. Second, even if he were, it shouldn’t be a problem since every citizen of this country is free to choose his or her religion or no religion at all. Further, virtually all Muslims in the world are decent, hard working people, as are most Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Baha’is, etc. Your inferance that somehow being a Muslim automatically makes a person less than worthy to be President of the United States is extremely rude, based only in ignorance and says volumes about your moral fiber.

  • “When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross.” ~ Sinclair Lewis.

  • Zealous, religious nuts are usually the most guilty suspects.
And many couldn’t even find their way out of a paper sack for God without a road map.
    And many wouldn’t even care.
Gee… let’s let Hucksterbee do it for us.

  • Nominating Huckabee should make at least one Democrat very very happy … George McGovern 🙂

  • DISCLAIMER
First of all i am writing this very fast and there maybe a few typos, before i get slated for being ignorant I have a ba hons degree and a post grad cert in education, i am a teacher by profession i was rasied in a catholic school and Im not anti american, my IQ is 140 which puts me in the top 6%,so please dont question my intelligence, i read everything and continually question my own beliefs, if you yourself cant question what you believe in then you are truly brainwashed.

I cant believe how totally confused a chunk of the u.s.a. has become, from an outsider (english) looking in, its insane how fast your country has been dragged down in many respects. 1/3 of your economy is now owned by china (communist/remember the soviet era and how you as a country killed millions of vietnamese in the name of anti communism and now your country is in bed with the biggest communist country)
After clinton left office you had excess cash and now you have a monster deficit. After 9/11 ( i actually hate the way that horrifc day has been soundbited into 3 digits) the world was united but your president has managed to squander the good will of the world and turn many against your country.
Bush is no christian, if he was and he truly believes god said THOU (YOU) SHALL NOT KILL, why would he kill and think thats alright. Dont be brainwashed by that f**kwit oreilly. Also cant believe someone said obama is a muslim lol he goes to a christian church BAHAHAHA you moron. Also why say GOD bless america, why not god bless everyone, if god who (by the way is not jesus, jesus has many conversations with him while alone, if he was god that would be messed up) was preferential to U.S.A. which was occupied geographically by native indians, why didnt he send his son to them why would he send them to the middle east. Its funny how many americans tie middle east and beards with “ISLAMOFACISTS” when A.the bible clearly forbids men to shave and also not eat lobster on a certain day.(how many christians listen to the bible and follow whats suits them) and B. Jesus was born there. also some other facts for you, the bible is many books hand selected by a commitee in byzantine many where left out because they didnt “fit” with their ideas, the original christians believed in reincarnation and where also veggies, however upon hearing that in a pastlife his wife was a witch the byzantine leader has reincarnation stripped form the bible and also made any veggie christians eat hot coals. You have no idea what jesus said you have no idea who is god or who is wrong or right, just as mohammed sat with woman in a mosque and now it is forbidden, so are you blinded not by jesus but by the men who have changed and manipulated his words for their own gain. THE BIBLE HAS BEEN ABUSED, IT IS A SHADOW OF ITS FORMER SELF, IT HAS BEEN TRANSLATED AND CHANGED BY MEN WHO HAVE NO RESPECT FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN THEIR OWN GAIN AND POWER.

    Appendixes
God is not a name it is a position why do people continually say god like that his name, how about Jehovah, Allah, Krishna, Vishnu, Zeus.

    Iran and middle east FACTS!
USA UK and France all supplied evil saddam with weapons and Usa and rumsfeld gave Saddam gas after he killed 5000 at hallabjah.

In the 70s the USA helped to overthrow the democratic government of IRAN and installed a dictator as they did in many south american countries that didnt play ball, you also tried to sell Iran nuclear technology. This was 40 years ago how things have changed. Can you see why the world thinks your govenment are hypocrites? You kick out democratic government install dicator and try and sell Iran nuclear tech and now it is the opposite.

Osama bin laden offered your country a truce! how many of you know this?
He doesnt hate freedom he is a fool but freedom hater he is not, he bombed the u.s.s. cole because u.s troops had gone into saudi arabia and into holy places. How would you feel if muslim tanks rolled up into your church or maybe the vatican. He has said if you leave the muslim countries he will leave you alone. TBH why has usa got army bases in 90% of the worlds countries?
look at the roots of Al Quaida, they are sick of their people being killed by you so they want to kill you, however you dont realise what your coutnry has done, ffs your country supported the K. rouge in cambodia and it killed 3 million people. CIA gave guns to jamaican yardies to start conflict. LEARN! my country is just as bad we split india in half and created pakistan and messed up israel palestine and have also killed millions.

U.S.A. trained and funded bin laden and the afghans to fight russia, so its ok for america to fund and arm during war but is not ok for other countries to do so, lol during iraq and iran war they gave one country itelligence and the other weapons, this is to destabilise so they can control the area and the oil, its basic conquer and divide tactics.

I am not anti american I am not anti anyone i just want all to learn a bit more about whats going on and question what you think.

all the best and peace to all regardless of where you happened to of been born.

Please dont send me a trailer trash reply calling me a communist and if you do just remember that you get most of your products from communist china and they own 1/3 of your country.

  • ya’ll know those aren’t the correct commandments…right…here are the commandment god spoke to moses and there is more then 10
    Then the LORD said:
    1. I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the LORD, will do for you. Obey what I command you today.
    2. I will drive out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.
    3. Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land where you are going, or they will be a snare among you.
    4. Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles [That is, symbols of the goddess Asherah].
    5. Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
    6. Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices.
    7. And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same.
    8. Do not make cast idols.
    9. Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in that month you came out of Egypt.
    10. The first offspring of every womb belongs to me, including all the firstborn males of your livestock, whether from herd or flock.
    11. Redeem the firstborn donkey with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck.
    12. Redeem all your firstborn sons. No one is to appear before me empty-handed.
    13. Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.
    14. Celebrate the Feast of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year [That is, in the fall].
    15. Three times a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD, the God of Israel.
    16. I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your territory, and no one will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before the LORD your God.
    17. Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast, and do not let any of the sacrifice from the Passover Feast remain until morning.
    18. Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God.
    19. Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.
    Exodus 34:10-26

  • Everybody likes to quote the ten commandments and how great they are. But nobody ever mentions what the punishment is for breaking any one of them. Doesn’t the bible say punishment for breaking a commandment is death.

Hmmmmm seems to me like a lot of people should be on death row.

    You commit adultry you die
    You lie you die
    You steal you did
    You covet you die
You disrespect your parents you die
    etc…

  • You would think after the example of Ahmadinejad, that Americans would know putting a religious nut in as president isn’t a good idea.

  • Seems like a lot of bitter and angry people out there at the very mention of God or Jesus. I guess I understand the frustration if you feel you have been done wrong by someone in the name of faith. I am also tired of my patriotism and faith being tied to my vote. I guess my reaction is to those who simply recoil at the thought of any moral code or religious intrusion into their lives. Are you really that sensitive that you resort to hate and invent false history regarding Christianity or other faiths. Does some guy who supports Huckabee (I do not) need to be called the f-word. Do well meaning Christians need to medicated merely because they disagree with you or desire to be treated fairly. We had one guy on here asking for death of a presidential candidate. My God who needs the meds?

  • To the writer of this entertaining piece, I can only assume you have picked only what you wanted to print in regards to the Ten Commandments. If you have read Matthew chpt 5 v:21, it clearly states ” do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgement.” Correct me if I’m wrong but don’t we now have a thing called the court system, that tackles this very topic? Wouldn’t this be a fine example of how our laws do reflect the ten commandments? Read further into chptr 5 v: 31, again covers the laws of divorce! And for all the other, well for the lack of a better term, lost souls that replied to this forum, I leave you with this thought~ Matthew chpter 7 v: 13, Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only few find it!
