I can’t wait to hear the perfectly logical explanation for this

As a conservative House member, Rep. Don Sherwood (R-Pa.) is pretty predictable. Especially when it comes to “family values” issues, Sherwood toes the party line and makes the GOP base happy — he voted for the Defense of Marriage Act and the “Marriage Protection Amendment” to the Constitution, and was re-elected to Congress with a 100% rating from the Christian Coalition.

It’s one of a few reasons why Sherwood may have an awkward time explaining a domestic disturbance that occurred at his DC apartment last year.

Rep. Don Sherwood (R-Pa.) has declined further comment on a titillating news report that a young woman called 911 from his Washington, D.C., apartment seven months ago, saying that the Congressman had choked her.

The Times Leader of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., cited a police report that said Cynthia Ore, 29, of Rockville, Md., locked herself in a bathroom at Sherwood’s D Street apartment and called 911 from her cellphone on the afternoon of Sept. 15, saying Sherwood “choked her for no apparent reason.”

Keep in mind, marriage-defender Sherwood denies that he choked this woman, but doesn’t deny the rest of the circumstances.

Sherwood, 64 and married, told police he was giving Ore a backrub when she suddenly “jumped up” and ran to the bathroom, according to the newspaper. Sherwood told the Times Leader that Ore was “an acquaintance,” but he would not say what the young woman was doing at his apartment (besides, apparently, getting her back massaged).

The “family values” party strikes again. Yet another anecdote to keep in mind the next time someone complains that Dems aren’t serious about protecting the sanctity of marriage.

Sherwood holds the seat once occupied by Joe McDade, one of the last moderate Repubs left. Great guy, strongly pro-labor. In contrast, Sherwood is a douche. Pat Casey nearly beat Sherwood twice before the PA legislature radically altered that district and cut out Scranton.

  • Isn’t it great how these right wing bible pushers don’t mind having a little sex on the side.

  • Word up, but you’re being too nice. A little sex is one thing, but Sherwood attacked another human being – a clear case of assault and battery. Perhaps Limbaugh can score something to help calm his psychotic episodes.

  • This 64-year-old married senator figures that “giving a backrub” to a 29-year-old babe is gonna go down just fine with his constituents? With the “family values” crowd? Wonder how Mrs. Sherwood feels about that? Hypocrisy, thy name is GOP. I hope this guy’s up for reelection in 2006!
