I guess the NYT missed the wave of Joementum

There was an interesting item in the New York Times yesterday about the behind-the-scenes wrangling over the intelligence reform bill on the Hill, but, as several alert readers noted, there was one sentence that jumped out.

The NYT’s Sheryl Gay Stolberg noted in the piece that Joe Lieberman has been among the key players in helping the bill advance, working with moderate Republicans like Susan Collins of Maine. But Stolberg added this gem:

Mr. Lieberman, who has kept a fairly low profile since his unsuccessful run for vice president in 2000, has re-emerged in the spotlight…

My, this does explain a lot, doesn’t it? Stolberg may have missed it, but Lieberman ran a presidential campaign in 2003 and 2004. As a rule, candidates running for president who “keep a fairly low profile” tend not to do very well.
