I don’t mean to blog a dead horse here, but I wanted to follow up for a moment about whether Ralph Nader’s running mate, Peter Camejo, is actually eligible to run for VP.
Many of you saw my post the other day about this and sent in news clips that identify Camejo as having been born in New York, making him able to run on Nader’s ticket. Thanks to all for the tips. However, I’m still a little confused.
While most of the reports explain that Camejo was born to Venezuelan parents in New York in 1939, there is still some ambiguity.
When Camejo recently ran for governor or California, for example, ABC News reported that he was born in Venezuela.
More importantly, Camejo’s own investment firm, Progressive Asset Management, where he serves as chairman of the board, described Camejo as a “naturalized U.S. citizen” who is “originally from Venezuela.”
And here’s another strange little twist. The same afternoon I posted an item about this, Progressive Asset Management changed its website to remove the sentence in question. The site, as of this minute, makes no reference to Camejo’s nation of origin. But my friend Darrell noticed that the cached version of the site shows that Camejo’s bio has been altered.
Just to be clear, I haven’t the foggiest idea where Camejo was born and I’m not accusing him of trying to deceive anyone. Chances are, the majority of the reports are accurate, he was born in New York, and there’s a reasonable explanation for the ambiguity. Maybe it’s just a coincidence that Camejo’s investment firm altered its website the very same afternoon this question arose and changed the one sentence because it was mistaken.
All I’m saying is that there seems to be some question about this and Camejo could clear this up with an explanation.
