At this point, I’m not entirely sure who feels worse about this year’s election results, Kerry voters in the U.S. or the rest of the world. Looking at some of the headlines from around the world, I’d say it’s pretty close.
* The cover of Thursday’s Daily Mirror asks, under a shot of a smirking Bush, “How can 59,054,087 people be so DUMB?”
* The Guardian was fronted by a page of solid black containing just two small words: “Oh, God.”
* The Independent ran the headline “Four More Years” along with iconic images from the first Bush term: kneeling prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, tortured prisoners at Abu Ghraib, soldiers fighting in Iraq, oil-drilling machinery, sign-wielding religious extremists, and a smirking Dubya.
* In France, LibĂ©ration ran a picture of the president under the headline, “L’Empire empire” — “The empire declines.”
Keep in mind, England and France are our allies.
