Kerry still considering opting out of public financing

To update a post from last week, it’s clear that John Kerry is still keeping his options open regarding post-convention campaign financing. As of the weekend, he hasn’t ruled out the option of skipping the public financing system.

“There are some people who have argued to our campaign that this should be done. I have not had time to sit down and evaluate it or look at it. I have no intentions. Right now my intention is to continue and do public financing,” he said.

Sounds like he’s leaning against it, but allowing the trial balloon to hang out there, just in case. When Kerry toyed with the idea of delaying the formal nomination, the press went ballistic and the proposal was scrapped. So far, the reaction has been far less negative to this possibility, though it’s received far less attention.

Stay tuned.
