Kook Right presidential predictions come true — 10 years later

Guest Post by Morbo

Remember the kook right’s wacky claims about Bill Clinton throughout the ’90s? We were told Clinton had established a secret network of prisons for his enemies and that he was so power mad he would even abuse federal agencies to spy on law-abiding Americans. Clinton was such a rogue, we were told, that he would stop at nothing — including torture — to keep his grip on power.

We were warned that Clinton was untested on the international stage. He had only been a governor. Surely he would get in over his head and start some foolhardy war somewhere, needlessly squandering young lives and tarnishing America’s reputation around the world. And of course Democrats like Clinton were always accused of reckless spending. Clinton, we were told by the right, would urge Congress to spend money like a drunken sailor and blow the budget to hell.

Clinton was also accused of overseeing a drug-running operation out of an airstrip near Mena, Ark. That turned out to be baseless, of course. But perhaps it’s time to take a good hard look at what’s going on at that “ranch” near Crawford and why there’s such a pressing need for brush clearing.

And remember when the dems were defending it all? the dems are no better than the repubs. vote green!

  • And remember when the dems were defending it all?

Defending all of what? The point of the post is about how wrong the attacks were and how they actually apply to Bush.

    Did you miss this?

  • Morbo,I recall most othe wingnuttery from the 90’s, but it would have been nice to have links to the articles in which hte kooky right made their claims about Clinton.

I’m much too lazy to do that, but I do recall that many of the most outlandish charges against Clinton were packaged in a scurrilous video produced in part by Jerry Falwell called “The Clinton Chronicles.” The video was so over the top that even Bill “Snakes Eyes” Bennett criticized it.

  • I am once again shocked to see the military constantly insulted in this manner. Even our drunken sailors spend more wisely and possesses greater moral fiber and authority than any Rethuglican congressman or senator you could name. STOP THE INSULTS TO OUR SAILORS!

CONGRESS SPENDS MONEY LIKE CRACK WHORES VACATIONING IN COLUMBIA.
