‘Last Throes’ — one year later

Exactly one year ago today:

“I think we may well have some kind of presence there over a period of time. But I think the level of activity that we see today, from a military standpoint, I think will clearly decline. I think they’re in the [tag]last throes[/tag], if you will, of the insurgency.” — [tag]Dick Cheney[/tag], May 30, 2005

Of course, as recently as March, [tag]Cheney [/tag]said the comments were “basically [tag]accurate[/tag] and reflect [tag]reality[/tag],” so it’s likely the significance of the one-year anniversary of the remark will be lost on the Vice President.

Maybe he really said “last throws” as in pitching and they are now really going to go on the offensive with their bats.

  • Oh, the insurgency is probably in it’s last throes, problem is that a civil war between Sunni/Shia factions is taking its place.

  • This graph shows the “last throes” remark in the context of US deaths in Bush’s Iraq quagmire. Doesn’t seem to have had any empirically observable consequences, but then the GOP is faith- rather than reality-based, isn’t it?

  • Hitler proved you can say something untrue over and over until the fools believe it. Lies and more lies, these people are below any sense of truth, honor or decency. Whores.

  • CB writes: “so it’s likely the significance of the one-year anniversary of the remark will be lost on the Vice President.”

What reality-based fact isn’t lost on the Vice President?
