At his press conference with Prime Minister Tony Blair this morning, Bush was asked about Bob Woodward’s revelations that the White House began secretly planning an invasion of Iraq shortly after 9/11.
Here’s the convincing, well thought-out answer Bush provided to quell what may soon be a major controversy:
“You know, I can’t remember exact dates that far back.”
I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.
Just for good measure, Bush added, “So I don’t remember in times of — what was being developed or not being developed…. I’d have to get back to you about a specific moment.”
I’m afraid he’ll have to do better than this. I’m also afraid he can’t.
