I’ve heard about awkward combinations of religion and politics, but this is ridiculous.
The [tag]Republican[/tag] state convention in Hempstead, L.I., opened, as many do, with a prayer. But the [tag]invocation[/tag] from Msgr. [tag]Jim Lisante[/tag], a Long Island pastor and Fox News commentator, cut right to the chase.
Lisante opened with a call to Republicans “to remember to love each other” – and to supporters of Bill Weld and John Faso not to “hate the other guy.”
That’s because “the other guy, whoever he is, is still better than [tag]Eliot Spitzer[/tag].”
So, Rev. Fox News delivered a [tag]prayer[/tag] about the Republican being better than the Democrat? I’m no theologian, but I’m not sure what the scriptural defense is for this.
Once again, it’s not [tag]secular[/tag] liberals stripping [tag]religion[/tag] of its spiritual significance, it’s conservative Republicans.
