Maybe that’s why Bush has avoided 60 Minutes

60 Minutes’ Mike Wallace chatted with the Boston Globe’s Suzanne Ryan this week, and their chat produced one of my favorite answers of all time. (via Jason Zengerle)

Q. President George W. Bush has declined to be interviewed by you. What would you ask him if you had the chance?

A. What in the world prepared you to be the commander in chief of the largest superpower in the world? In your background, Mr. President, you apparently were incurious. You didn’t want to travel. You knew very little about the military. . . . The governor of Texas doesn’t have the kind of power that some governors have. . . . Why do you think they nominated you? . . . Do you think that has anything to do with the fact that the country is so [expletive] up?

First, if Wallace ever did get the chance to pose these questions to Bush, I wouldn’t expect him to answer, but I bet the look on the president’s face would be priceless.

Second, do you suppose Wallace’s comments might have something to do with Bush avoiding 60 Minutes?

I think it has more to do with his Bubble-boy nature. When was the last time he was actually interviewed by someone other than a pre-screened, known sycophant, asking prepared questions? Aside, from the 2004 debates that is…oh wait…

  • I think Wallace was candid because he knows there is not a snowball’s chance in hell that Bush would consent to 60 minutes interview. If he thought for a second that he could charm Bush into his lair, then he would have had nice things to say.

  • Does Wallace comment on his son going to work for Fox? What an embarassment to the family.

  • Yes, Wallace does talk about Fox (and his son) and the answer is not particularly gratifying if you dislike Fox News. Apparently he has quite a bit more respect for Roger Ailes than he does for the president.

  • It looks like one of our allies in the coalition of the coerced is cracking down on unintelligent design in school. Pakistan removing Bush tribute There’s no telling where Bush propaganda will turn up. Maybe it should be printed on toilet paper.
