Today’s edition of quick hits.
* That Iraq NIE still needs to be released — voters’ sake, before the election.
* In New Jersey today, Senate candidate Tom Kean, Jr. became the first Republican candidate for federal office to call for Hastert’s resignation.
* Considering that ABC News brought to their attention a sexual predator in their midst, shouldn’t House GOP leaders be thanking reporters for uncovering the Mark Foley scandal?
* There have been odd circumstances about Neil Bush, the president’s brother, trying to get rich off of No Child Left Behind for quite a while, but it appears the problem is getting worse. (Thanks to Geoff for the tip.)
* The AP and the O’Reilly Factor both made mistakes on Wednesday and identified Mark Foley as a Democrat. Can you guess which of the two ran a correction?
* Note to Republican candidates everywhere: if you use Hurricane Katrina as a positive example of government in action, voters will laugh at you.
* When conservative Republicans move away from Dennis Hastert, and Sen. Joe Lieberman (I) moves closer to Hastert, you know there’s a problem.
* Worst…recovery…ever.
* I knew the Department of Homeland Security was still having some trouble with the no-fly list, but this is ridiculous. (Thanks to E.T. for the tip.)
* It’s wrong to negotiate with terrorists, but if Mike Gallagher stopped those bastards from protesting the funerals of the five Amish girls killed on Monday, it was probably worth it to give them 55 minutes of airtime.
* The Foley scandal certainly is generating some interesting campaign advertising strategies.
* John Cole considers the president’s 2000 campaign promises and compares them to reality. It ain’t pretty. (I’m referring, of course, to the results of the comparison, not the post.)
