Nader’s misguided priorities — Part MMCXVII

Ralph Nader is still struggling to qualify for state ballots as an independent presidential candidate, but Oliver at The Liquid List noticed one Nader coordinator who is too clever by half.

While most signature-gatherers have been hitting vegan restaurants and bookstore cafes, Jim Polk is turning the approach on its ear.

Nader’s Virginia campaign coordinator, Jim Polk, knew where to find a mother lode of registered voters willing to put their names on a Nader petition. “Truck pulls,” Polk said, patting his well-traveled clipboard as he suggested a quintessential red-state event. “People think they’re doing George Bush a favor if they sign these. I’ve had some of my best luck at truck pulls.”

It’s the kind of logic that makes you want to bang your head against your desk. As if it weren’t enough that Nader contributions are coming from Bush donors, now Nader’s backers are working their way on to ballots by relying on Republican assistance.

Do you think it occurs to guys like Polk that the Republicans who are signing the petitions to help Bush might actually be right about who benefits from Nader’s presence on the ballot?

No, probably not. Sigh.
